Since we're here in Japan, why don't we talk about what we love here? I LOVE the Japanese women's style of clothes. However, I hate that I can't find any of their clothes in my size and the fact that they can look super cute in crazy outfits and yet it'd just look ridiculous on me, haha! Kudos to them though! Oh, I love their language too. I only know a few words but they're fun to say. (:

MOMZ --- 16 years ago -

I love the culture. I hate their clothes...lol. I love/hate their beautiful porceilan skin (females)...I'm just jealous!

lovin'oki --- 16 years ago -

100 yen stores!! I love how these people can come up with great gadgets to make good use of small spaces. Love the culture and he polite, respectful demeanor...(except for those jerks that like to go by the towers and rev their engines at all hours of the night!) The beaches and slower island life is quite a nice change...the language is beautiful if I could only learn it!

dannie --- 16 years ago -

I love all the little things you can buy and 100 yen store great stuff cheap!

Oct1st --- 16 years ago -

I love the classical music that they play on the loud speakers, in the evening. And i love that the garbage trucks play music like ice cream trucks!

dannie --- 16 years ago -

I like that they let plants just grow and trim like once maybe twice a year. And everyone has a few plants on the porch.

lovin'oki --- 16 years ago -

I love the classical music that they play on the loud speakers, in the evening. We call that our 6 o'clock dinner music!

lovin'oki --- 16 years ago -

Love the gentle 7am music as well...better than that obnoxious alarm clock!

levisbeauty24 --- 16 years ago -

I love the beauty....and the fact when you say I live in japan to someone in the states they LOSE there mind and ask you a 100 questions about JAPAN~ lol Im kidding on the last part~!

Nancy --- 16 years ago -

I love being able to exspose my children and myself to a new culture. This will be something they can tell their own children about. My kids are lovin the sushi even our toddler says she wants it when I ask her what she wants to eat. It's so cute.

I love the classical music that they play on the loud speakers, in the evening. And i love that the garbage trucks play music like ice cream trucks! I hate that music.. and the trash truck.. ugh.. too loud- we live offbase and it echos through the neighborhood. I love most everything else.. The colors of their cars, the smallness of their cars, their style, their culture, their houses, their food, their accents, their smallness- they are so cute.. I love this place.. but dislike the noises :P

OkiLuver --- 16 years ago -

I love it here, especially in the spring and summer. There is so much to do in one day sometimes it's hard to chose. I think the people here very kind and polite ( a few are seem unhappy with americans due to personal reasons) but overall the japanese people are down to earth. I love shopping off base, especially for food. I appreciate how the cashier/bagger handles my groceries with care and than seal the bag so they don't fall out. Since I live off base, what I dislike most, especially when I was pregnant and barely slept is the trash pick-up truck, it comes here between 4-5 a.m., hate it, hate it.

OkiLuver --- 16 years ago -

*choose, *people here are very, * a few seem

lilmama --- 16 years ago -

Not a whole lot. Although the Japanese locals are probably some of the nicest ppl I've ever met. I also like Cocok's nail salon.

Scrappy --- 16 years ago -

I LOVE the Japanese women's style of clothes. OMG really lol, they dress like we all used to in America in the 80's lol.

Manna --- 16 years ago -

oh, there's so much to love here! i absolutely love how nice everyone is. Even with the language barrier, they try to be as accomodating as possible. The 100 yen stores are awesome. I love Genki's! Sushi and sake are a fun way to have a great girls night. :o) I like the little bars by the sea wall. The food is great. I even love how there are random vending machines placed in fields. And of course the beaches and the views!

dannie --- 16 years ago -

I love that I can take my son with me to the bathroom and they have a seat for him to sit in!!! Everything for kids is awsome the parks are cool even for parents!

Manna --- 16 years ago -

My son is just now becoming old enough to enjoy the parks. What are some good recommendations? He's almost two but he absolutely loves slides!

dannie --- 16 years ago -

We go Geochaching (sp) and we find alot of parks that way there is one in Naha that has awesome slides. If you plan to go down okinawan slides bring cardboard you will thank me later.

Manna --- 16 years ago -

haha, thanks for the advice

Jamie (Sake's momma) --- 16 years ago -

Geochaching Is that the thing with gps?

Going KooKoo in Okinawa --- 16 years ago -

I don't like anything here. With the exception of my 6 year old and my 8 month old, we are all so unhappy here. My 9 year old says the school is "poor and behind", and they treat him like a baby. Tired of having to order all of my children's clothes online and tired of fighting traffic just to get to anywhere. My husband is overwhelmed and understaffed at work which is making him cranky. Not to mention every thing is sooo expencive. I just want to go back to the states to my boring little life. Hey, at leaste when I went on a walk there, I could read the street signs and understand what people are saying.

Jamie (Sake's momma) --- 16 years ago -

True true.. I think the culture is worth putting up with the crankyness and the language barrier.. The lang. is hard.. I am learning bits and pieces, but they get excited when I talk to them in their lang, so it makes me want to learn more :)

Scrappy --- 16 years ago -

I love that I am living in Japan. I would never have the chance if it were not for the military. It is an experience my daughter will remember and there are always things for the kids to do and others for them to play with. I hate the heat, and a ton of other things but when it comes down to it it is what you make it. If you come here with an open mind and you are positive you will leave here with a good attitude. I miss the states and I will be ready to go when its time. But while Im here Im going to give it my all to take it all in and appreciate this opportunity.

boone --- 16 years ago -

Cococks, 100 yen, CoCos, and Devil's Cove. I also think that Japanese people are really nice, until you get them to a flea market and then they are cutthroat! I am a tall tall woman and I have been pushed out of the way while looking at stuff!

Manna --- 16 years ago -

oh god, the flea markets! i only experienced this once. and right on the nose, when they let the japanese locals in, it's a stampede! I was so shocked. People were running and hopping fences lol. It makes for a great story! If you don't keep your eye on stuff though, sweet little old ladies make off with it!

Manna --- 16 years ago -

Lisa, how long have you been on island? When I first got here I was seven months pregnant and incredibly miserable for the first couple of months. I couldn't find everything I wanted for the baby and couldn't get a lot of the stuff I needed shipped. Then we started to get out and explore a little bit, and now we make it a point to try something new at least every week. Even if it is just dinner or trying to find a great beach to take our dogs too. I've found a couple of furniture places, which was another one of my big pet peeves too. And I love some of the off base restaurants, like Arin Krin (Garlic House), Peter's Place, Zen, etc etc...

Sam --- 16 years ago -

I have only been here a few days, but I love how the people here are with my kids. It reminds me of NC. We lived out in town there, everyone was always so nice to my kids. I love the cars. Most of all, I love how excited my husband and I are together to experience living here. It will, of course, not always be so exciting and new, but we adapt pretty well to all sorts of things and are generally positive, so we're looking forward to moving into somewhere permanent and exploring.

Kadenamommy --- 16 years ago -

I love Okinawa Forest Adventure World...and I love being able to go down a dark alley, piss drunk in a mini skirt and for 1, not look out of place, but 2) knowing that I don't have to worry about safety. I love it here. :)
