my son is 2 1/5 yrs. old and barely talking but his motor skills are awesome except the talking part. Does anyone had the same situation with thier kids and got into therapy at EDIS? did it work?

my oldest daughter had that problem. while in cherry point i took her to the doctor for it and they said if she doesnt talk better by the time she starts kindergarten to worry about it then. he said that kids talk and pick up things differently. by my daughters 3rd b-day she was talking so much more. shes going to be 4 in july she talks better now but she still has trouble pronoucing certain letters but shes talking so much more! 

we had a screening today and my son is illegible for the program, I just want to know if it did works but I know they're very happy to help me out with my son. 

I didn't even bother to see his pcm as they always change it. I don't wanna just sit and wait, well, I have patience-issues when it comes to waiting.

My middle son is in speech therapy and has been for 3 years and he is 6 now. It started out in the states but when we moved here he was sent to Bob Hope. It was more like a pre-school enviroment and the speech teacher would come get him out of class and work with him. The class was if I can remember, was 4 days a week from like 8:30 to 11:30. Then we moved and he got moved to Kadena and it was the same thing pretty much. However, when he moved to kindergarten, he was still seeing a speech therapist and she is the best one so far. She works at Stearly Heights. I am impressed with her skills. With him being 6, I still find it difficult to understand him at times and we both get frustrated. He gets frustrated at me because I can't figure him out and I get frustrated because I try my best to figure him out. Now my 4 year old is picking up a lot of his speech patterns so I am trying to get him in the same program that he was for next year. What is funny...they understand each other and can carry on a whole conversation and I just stand there confused.

What is funny...they understand each other and can carry on a whole conversation and I just stand there confused. my 6 yr old son is very good on communicating with my 2 yr old maybe for some reason he understands his big brother very well and vice versa but my older one speaks well.

in what way? she'll be the one who's gonna do his first eval. i hated that lady she did not much for her she actually didn't start talking until she got into pscd. I love the pscd program! but for each kiddo its different some might only go once a week and then some like my kid go all week full time you won't know until they have his/her evual! if anyone has any questions about edis or pscd please pm me i have been through so much for my little girl and will be so happy to help yall! 

so who's gonna do the eval to get into pscd? 

You probably saw Sarah Lemon, who usually does it intake eval stuff. She does not usually do the actual evaluation-she is not usually the one who decides if you can receive services or not. She is a really nice woman actually. You will get an appt to have your son evaluated. It will most likely be with two therapists. They will evaluate your son through playing-asking him questions, asking him to name things, do things, etc. At the end, they will "add" up his scores and tell you if he qualifies or not. If you qualify for speech therapy, it's done in your home until your child is 3 years old. They enter the preschool program at age 3. The severity of the speech delay will be what decides how many sessions of therapy your son will receive-it might be weekly, it might be 2x a month, who knows. If you have a choice on therapists, I recommend Bruce Thomas. He is fantastic.
