usmc-wife99 --- 16 years ago -

caligurl --- 16 years ago -

thanks 4 the support every1. sorry 4 the delay in response, we're still @ the west pac & the net connection here SUX! i'm from so cal, orange co area. we're *supposed* 2 b getting housing soon out of courtney, sad bout that 2 cuz our dog (we left her w family b4 we left the states) can't come now :0( stupid towers! o well, guess this is just par 4 the course.

Krystle --- 16 years ago -

oh yea mine leaves at the end of june for 5 months. :(

caligurl --- 16 years ago -

r u plannin on goin back 2 the states? i've heard alot of wives do that... i dunno if i will, seems like alot of trouble & i'm not sure i'd wanna stay w family 4 that long. but wondering what i'm gonna do here by myself 4 all that time...

Krystle --- 16 years ago -

I dont think so. I was told I couldn't be gone for more than 31 days from my house or we lose cola and housing. I wanted to leave in august and stay wil oct, but I guess i can't now. :(

Banannie --- 16 years ago -

mine's gone now for 6 mo and I already screwed up by not paying the stupid road tax. =(

caligurl --- 16 years ago -

I already screwed up by not paying the stupid road tax oops. that stuff happens, don't beat urself up. yeah, with the time limits due 2 housing i don't think i'll go back when he deploys either. right now i'm just worried bout delivering by myself :0( anybody else deliver here.. or know of a doula??

Banannie --- 16 years ago -

I've delivered two babies here but I've always had my husband with me. Do you have some close friends to lend a hand? I'm staying here the whole 6mo but I have to take 4 of my 6 kids back to visit their parents in the states... so that's two tickets for me to go there and back at the beginning of the summer and there and back at the end of the summer. I am so not looking forward to that!

nikita08 --- 16 years ago -

Yeah you're not supposed to leave for more than 31 days as COLA stops and you can lose your gov housing

Going KooKoo in Okinawa --- 16 years ago -

Hey Caligirl mine's leaving in that time frame also. I live on McT if you and the baby wana come hang with my three heathans and two doggies. Can't leave the island at all due to the eldests school schedules. BTW I'm only a five minute drive from Courtney. I can show you all the cool places around Uruma.

caligurl --- 16 years ago -

Do you have some close friends to lend a hand? sadly, no. we just arrived on island bout 2 weeks ago. still @ west pac actually so don't even have neighbors or anything yet :0( but i've already met some really nice ppl & support seems 2 abound here, still... nothing can replace ur hubby especially in the delivery room. hoping 2 hire a doula 2 get me thru kookoo, that'd b great! thanks 4 the offer :0) my 2 & 1/2 year old could really use some other kid interaction, we'll haveta get 2gether if i EVER get into housing *sigh*

IslandBordum --- 16 years ago -

Yeah the Gov Housing is a pain in the arse. Make sure your neighbors are really cool

caligurl --- 16 years ago -

Gov Housing is a pain in the arse so i've noticed! i'm so sick of this hotel but not looking 4ward 2 having 2 live @ the towers. it's a no-win.

IslandBordum --- 16 years ago -

The towers? which base?

caligurl --- 16 years ago -

we don't technically have an offer yet there was a paperwork mishap that's holding everything up but hubby went 2 the housing appt last week b4 we found that out... he's outta hansen so we were told courtney & the only thing availible is the towers. i'm so disappointed! my son & i really miss our dog & now she hasta stay in the states :0( not 2 mention that we won't have any outdoor space & we could b high up (i know it's dumb but i've got a phobia, ok). i just never could stand apt style housing & they look so sterile, remind me of hospitals or jails. i know i should b trying 2 look on the bright side but very sad bout the whole thing

IslandBordum --- 16 years ago -

Those type sux if you're on anything but Kadena or Foster. Kinser has a nice view but who wants to drive that far to work on this great island

Going KooKoo in Okinawa --- 16 years ago -

Caligirl I can help ya out with the baby being born also. I can go with you to the hospital, watch the kids, what ever you need. Going to go to school to be a doula when I get back to the states.

caligurl --- 16 years ago -

thanx kookoo, i could use all the help i can get. still haven't seen a doc here yet so i'll need 2 get some things settled w that b4 i make plans but sounds good. have u attended yet? do u need births 4 ur cert? did u know there's a yahoo group 4 oki doulas (no1's availible around my due date tho)? started my doula cert 2 (online b4 we left the states) never got around 2 finishing it :0( in my pre-mom life i was a perinatal specialist/parent educator. 1 of these days i'll blow the dust off of my career ;0)

Going KooKoo in Okinawa --- 16 years ago -

No, haven't started anything yet due to the fact that I had a baby four months before we got here. I got inspired by the doula I had with the birth of this last baby. Was a wonderful experience. I would do it over again if I didn't already have three. I can get my doula certification online? Here I was worried about getting my RN and then pushing my hubby to get us stationed close to Baltimore so that I can go through John's Hopkins program. Which costs 80 grand a year plus books and lab fees! You'll have to tell me more.

BTW keep your expectations low when it comes to Bush clinic. I would call asap to get in for a prenatal visit.

caligurl --- 16 years ago -

can't still not signed up 4 tricare, they screwed up his paperwork & still haven't fixed it so can't check into anything! there are alot of correspondance classes that r recognized 4 doula cert. diff organizations do them, costs about $900-$2000 2 get just the birth doula cert from most of them. i'll haveta look it up but i'll send u a link. dunno how recognized they r @ hospitals but definately fine if u wanna do a private practice or childbirth ed like me
