U.S. Education Standards
Are you surprised?
I'm not, at all.
Considering the hell I went through in school by being a military brat and moving from state to state.
That whole "no kid left behind" thing.
They have that here also...I DON'T agree with it at all...If the kid deserves to fail than let them fail...It never hurt anyone in the past by having to repeat a subject or for that matter a grade!

Agreed! I hate how they do the sports out here with the First Steps. Everyone's a winner! Psh.
...If the kid deserves to fail than let them fail.
See my thing on the whole no kid left behind is if they don't deserve to pass and haven't learned the material than why would you send them on to the next grade...all it's doing is hurting that child by getting farther and farther behind. It's just stupid.

Which is the problem with a lot of people in the generations coming up now.
Pass them all, I don't care. The real world will sort them out. The morons will knock up their girlfriends at 18 and spend their life changing oil. The smart ones will do it right and end up as doctors and lawyers.
(Before you start hollering "hey I got married at 18, just consider yourself the exception. You aren't but consider yourself one anyway.)

some of them join the military you know, the military has an awful lot of maintainers.

What the hell is wrong with that? They're freaking 3 and 4 years old. I can see an issue with that in middle school, but jesus christ, they're fvcking preschoolers.
Let's just crush them early on. Makes better citizens, right?
No Child Left Behind does not mandate that schools pass children that fail.
It has to do with funding mostly. If a school has too many kids fail testing, they lose funding.
No wonder the states are setting the bar low. They don't want to lose federal funds-the schools barely get by monetarily as it is.
From the article Bryn posted:
"States can set easier standards that ensure schools will meet the federally mandated goals, or they can set more challenging standards that help kids improve."
So really, it's not about simply passing failing kids for their self-esteem. It's about maintaining funding.
The stupidest idea ever was to decide that schools that are under-performing need LESS money. Maybe MORE money would allow them to have more resources to help the kids learn.
I don't agree either.
Back when I was in school...there were 2 kinds of classes. Regular and Special.
Now, if a child doesn't want to do their homework it's like "Oh it's ok...let's put him in an IEP so he can learn better..." No..how about you discipline your child because he's being a little sh!t.
Stupid. It's making our kids dumber and the parents lazier.
Agreed! I hate how they do the sports out here with the First Steps. Everyone's a winner! Psh.
I agree. Everyone is NOT a winner. Competition builds character in our young ones...makes em stronger later.

They already learn about losing at that age...duck duck goose, Tag, hide and seek...they can handle it- the parents are the ones who freak out most of the time.
What the hell is wrong with that?
It's not realistic. When kids play with each other, they don't make sure everyone wins or that everyone has a good time.
and I understand that. But you're talking about preschool kids here who barely know how to play, much less can play and win (or lose). The idea at that age is to introduce them to sports and playing as a team, not to playing competitively. There will be years ahead of them for competitive play. 3 and 4 year olds need to learn to play cooperatively first.
I guess for me, with baseball, I saw a bunch of preschoolers that barely understood the fundamentals of the game-much less were able to play competitively.
Obviously, kids need to learn about winning/losing. But I don't want my child's first experience playing team sports to be a depressing, crushing one. What a way to set him up to hate team sports for life.
Then we can all complain about the fat kids who don't play sports.
My as s. Three year olds and four year olds run around like idiots playing all the damn time.
Not organized sports lol. At least not most of the kids on my son's baseball team.
Some of the kids who were really close to 5 did better, but the 3 year olds, especially the ones that had just turned 3-well, it was cute. lol
I just don't understand why society can't accept that some kid are morons and destined to scrub toilets for a living. That is ok, there is nothing wrong with that, trailer parks need money!
Doctor at the Naval Hospital? I hear there are a lot of whales go through there. Or least according to OU.
OMG...I almost spit out my coffee on that one. You are so daggone silly.
At that age they shouldn't even be participating in sports ffs.
But now, with everyone so ultra-competitive about their kids sports, if they don't start learning that young, they don't get to play. Seriously. Even Little League, with rules about everyone must play, finds loopholes to keep the kids who can barely play from playing.
With your grammar it is easy to place you as well!
If I made a mistake, cut me a break. I haven't had my coffee yet.
She was at my house late last night. Be nice.
