Just wanted to see what yall thought about people asking for free items.. Especially free baby items. I see those posts about single mothers needing items for free and saw one about someone expecting a different sex than what their first child was.. What is your opinion on this?

An_Drew --- 15 years ago -

I still want to know if those Jesus Freaks got their bed they were needing.

An_Drew --- 15 years ago -

Was God telling them to make lots of babies? I think so.

Caitlin --- 15 years ago -

Huh? Jesus freaks? Bed? I'm lost.. And those "newlyweds who are E-4 who are expecting their first child and have nothing".. My husband is an E-4 and we are by no means struggling when buying the things needed for our first child arriving in April. We just buy some things here and there..

??? --- 15 years ago -

I gave away free baby boy stuff. but that is because a friend of mine gave me this stuff for our girl. and i never put her into blue and green baby boy outfits. I think if you get something for free- then you should pass it on for free. i don't think its right for people to "ask" when you 1st have a baby, you don't need golce & gabana for them. they just need the simple things, a few little out fits, bottles if ur formula feeding, recieving blankets. if you don't have alot of money- you don't need a crib right away, chances are your going to have the child in your room the 1st few weeks. and besides being an e4 and below, we get COLA over here, if you live on base you don't pay for anything but cable and phone.

when you 1st have a baby, you don't need golce & gabana for them. they just need the simple things, a few little out fits, bottles if ur formula feeding, recieving blankets. But I NEED my Coach.

Caitlin --- 15 years ago -

But I NEED my Coach. YES!! My baby absolutely has to have class.. Class before diapers--that's my motto:) oh yes, I have received soooooo many clothes for her for free and have also listed the ones that we decided not to use for free. I had a woman email me asking if resellers are welcome.. I said no! I do not agree with you making a profit off of something that was given to you for free. I just think it's tacky to ask for handouts. We live in base housing and we pay for Internet, phone and cable and cell phones and that's it! And we still have so much left over after all of that.. If you have no money (especially whole getting cola) maybe stop buying the things that you don't need and start spending money on the things that you do!

Caitlin --- 15 years ago -

Oops.. Double post:)

An_Drew --- 15 years ago -

and besides being an e4 and below, we get COLA over here, if you live on base you don't pay for anything but cable and phone So you don't pay for food? Credit cards? Leisure expenses? You must be rolling in the money.

Caitlin --- 15 years ago -

After our bills are paid, groceries come next. You have to have food!! If your skimping on food, get your priorities straight. I think she meant those are the only bills that we apparently pay. But I would like to add cell phone, car and groceries to that. All in all, we pay for: Internet, cable, cell, car, vonage and groceries.

♥Mrs. Boss ♥ --- 15 years ago -

There really is not a "need" to ask for things for free...but if someone was actually going to use the stuff and not try to resell it for money then i would gladly help them out. I just gave away 4 big bag fulls of girls clothing anywhere from 0 months all the way up to 18 months because my daughter had outgrew them and I didn't feel like posting them individually and dealing with no call no shows :-) But i think if someone needs a helping hand...If you have something to give then give if not...wgas..They can ask. I really wouldn't say that just b/c they are over here and recieve cola that they can afford ALL the things they need, Since we don't know thier situation. They may have to pay for the bills they have over here plus maybe they still have some in the states like a morgage and vehicles..Who knows. I guess i'm up in the air. On one hand they should have planned better, but accidents do happen On the other hand and unexpected expenses come up.

So you don't pay for food? Credit cards? Leisure expenses? You must be rolling in the money. I guess we know how to manage our money. We pay for food, but we don't go eat at chillis every night or go to subway. We just do the shopping at the store. And Cola does help us alot. I mean an extra 1200 every month sure comes in handy paying off bills. We have a brand new car and a house payment and 3 loans that we pay every month for back in the states. but besides that, i don't think people should "ask" for free stuff. sometimes i wonder if they are just being frugal and wanting something for free when they know they can buy it About the food part. That is on you. you can sit there and spend 500 plus a month or more on food. but the cable/phone/internet etc. that is a fixed monthly payment that you can't control. food and other things is something you can control on how much you spend. All in all, we pay for: Internet, cable, cell, car, vonage and groceries. Internet/cable- 75 cell- 200 if u max it up(but you dont NEED a cell phone) Car- 350 a month(not including jci, etc..) Vongage- 24.99 food- avg 450 a month. gas-40 a month, unless you drive all over the island everyday Total a month 1140, so what is everyone else doing with their money? I mean those expensives are basically your cola. i know that some people have tons of bills from back in the states. but i guess u have to figure out what is more important, have a little debt or getting supplies for your new child.

I hoard money.

Loved living in Oki --- 15 years ago -

I hoard money You're a hoarder?! Me, too. But we spend it whenever we want something. Is it possible to be a hoarder AND a spender at the same time?

Nicole --- 15 years ago -

I give all my money away. If it comes back to me, it was meant to be.

boone --- 15 years ago -

Is it possible to be a hoarder AND a spender at the same time? I guess if you hoard enough money and then hoard the things you buy with the money. Do I need to call the show Hoarders and get you on air?

Krystle --- 15 years ago -

You're a hoarder?! Me, too. But we spend it whenever we want something. Is it possible to be a hoarder AND a spender at the same time?  I think so I hoard money away and it just keeps coming even though I spend it. I think it also has to do with not having to spend money on anyone else other than myself. And the husband sometimes ;)

*Holly* --- 15 years ago -

I want a free Coach! You think I will get responses if I asked for a free Coach?

*Holly* --- 15 years ago -

Maybe someone will give you a bad KO. Nope, I will make sure it was real.

peachyme --- 15 years ago -

And those "newlyweds who are E-4 who are expecting their first child and have nothing".. My husband is an E-4 and we are by no means struggling when buying the things needed for our first child arriving in April. We just buy some things here and there.. My husband is an E3 and we have 2 kids under 2. We make it work and I've never asked for anything. I've gotten free stuff before and I've given away free stuff. I just don't think you should make a pity party out of it and beg for stuff. Typically people will help you out without you asking. Especially for a first time mommy.

boone --- 15 years ago -

Well if I can't get stuff for free do you think they'll at least take credit cards? I spent all of my money on designer dog food, and a giant Coach dog carrying bag. I had to add the wheels to the bag myself and I charge a lot for labor.

Casey --- 15 years ago -

i have friends who still have mortgage's on houses in the states to pay that can afford to feed, diaper, and clothe their kids just fine. if you can't afford anything for your kids, you're either doing it wrong.. or you shouldn't have had one.
