Basically, we are purchasing a huge nursery set and need to find a way to get it to our house..Should we rent a truck or would you recommend putting an ad out of OYS saying we will pay if you have a truck? What have you done you needed a big vehicle or what not?

Ash-Uh-Ley! --- 15 years ago -

They have a person advertising on OYS about moving furniture.

rent a truck. Or use a friend that has a bigger vehicle(it's cheaper :-)

Ash-Uh-Ley! --- 15 years ago -

Yeah, the trucks are only like 35 or 40 bucks.

Wow! Thanks Ash for that link, thats great! I didnt even know that. Mrs. Boss, I need to take a govt bed and govt dresser back to the warehouse and the set has like 8 pieces that go to it so even my friends van wouldnt help without like 5 or 6 trips or so. I wonder if that guy actually helps move the furniture too. If not, J has guys he works with that would probably help..

Yah. Rent a truck. yeah, I'm thinking that too. The first thing is getting the gov't furniture back to the warehouse (and probably paying for the headboard that was cracked...NO! before asking, it was not from doing the "nasty"..lol) and then getting the nursery furniture here. Which I am very worried about cause I dont want them scratching it or anything like that. Luckily it is white, so if it gets scratched, I may be able to touch it up a bit.

Agreed with Renting the truck. I think you get it for like 6 hours or so.

Caitlin --- 15 years ago -

yeah, my husband just called and I told him our options and he says the same thing.. They have a truck at his shop like that and he said there are a few other guys who need to take back some gov't furniture so it just might work out to where we wont have to rent the damn thing..It might mean the guys having to go pick up the sgts govt furniture and taking it back for them but at least they are saving a little money by not having to rent a truck.

I would (honestly) not purchase the huge nursery set. We did a crib and a changing table. And used a dresser we already had. When we go stateside again, we'll invest our money on beds/dressers that they boys can use until they move out. But...that's just me. I tend to think like that. I bought neutral stuff the first time so we could use it multiple times, used the same nursery bedding, crib, etc with the 2nd baby....heck, poor kid even wears mostly hand-me-downs.

Make sure if you rent a truck, one of y'all knows how to drive a stick shift!

See, I had picked out a crib (that was the gift that my parents wanted to buy her) and it came to $425 for that crib alone. Thinking we were leaving Aug 2010, I told her not to order it right now cause it would cost an arm and a leg to send here and then we run the risk of it getting messed up when we leave to go back. Now that we have been extended (and are thinking SERIOUSLY about trying to go to Germany after this) we want to go ahead and purchase the things that we have put off for so long. We put off buying living room furniture so that when we get back to the states, we can get it then but it looks like we either may extend for Oki longer than Aug 2011 or go Germany. Either way, it doesnt really look like we are going back to the states. So we have decided that we want to decorate a nursery for her and buy furniture for her as well. The set does come with a changing table as well as a dresser and 2 other storage cabinets and luckily it is white (which we really love because it can go with anything)..i feel like we got really LUCKY with having a girl because his family just comes from a long line of boys..So we need to think of gender friendly because I have a feeling (if we do have any more) that it may be a boy next time. Our travel system and our pack n play are both gender friendly..The only things that arent are her clothes and the bedding for the crib.

Oh, I'm not saying you shouldn't buy it. I was just stating my idea. lol. I know lots of people that buy really nice nursery sets. I'm just not one of them. I like to think long term. lol

Caitlin --- 15 years ago -

Oh, I'm not saying you shouldn't buy it. I was just stating my idea. lol. Oh no, I completely understand. I think that we are both so excited (and it doesnt help that we are seeing our friends on FB posting pics of them painting and setting up the new babys nursery) so we want to have that opportunity too. With the painting though, that might get another thought. Maybe just an accent wall to make life easier on us when we do leave!

Is it odd that we are actually contemplating extending here for longer than what they have already extended us for?! lol, I was just saying it out loud as I typed it and I was thinking to myself, "ARE YOU AND HIM NUTS"!?!?!?
