I'm pretty sure my baby has it, and I've heard it's super common here. I've called the doctor twice and have never been called back, yay me.
Just wondering if anyone elses small child has it and what you do for it.
I bought the Disney cream and it seems to work most of the time but others does nothing. I've also used Aveno and Burts Bees.
It gets worse when he sweats, which he does often when we're outside. It doesn't seem to bother him but it bothers me!
eucerin cream
thats what they gave me for my 17month old. they also gave us hydrocortazon (sp??) to apply after baths.

that stuff didn't work for my son.
Disney cream
what's that?
It's called Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream by Disney Baby. I just saw it in the baby section and thought I'd give it a try.
The nurse actually finally called me back and I am going to take him to the doc tomorrow to confirm that's what it is and hope they give us something make it better!
Do the creams the doctor gave seem to work?
It always gets worse when we're outside and that's a huge problem because I workout outside! But if I need to keep him indoors it isn't the end of the world.
Do the creams the doctor gave seem to work?
they seem to work just fine for my son. he actually has learned how to apply the hydrocordocrap to his chest.
I have it on my hands, wrists and one ankle (the ankle is only during the winter). I use eucerin cream and it works (the doc gave me a script for it) and I also use hydrocortizone cream for the itching.
We have to cake it on our daughter. It seems no matter what we do, her skin is so dry and she's always scratching and breaking skin. In the past 2 weeks we've went through almost 5 jars of the cream between home and daycare
My daughter also had it when she was about 6 months or so. The creams work. It also helped not bathing her everyday. And when you do bath them, if they play in the tub, do not wash them until right before they get out.
We thought my daughter had eczema on her face as well, but it never went away with the medicine they gave me, and it turned out to pilaris keratonsis.
pilaris keratonsis.
What exactly is that?
It is build up of keratin in your pores. Ya know the little bumps some people get on the back of the arms and legs? It's the same thing.
Boone, there is some not so nice chemicals in that cream- 3 different parabens, plus a not so nice preservative that is a possible allergen.
Also, pretty much most common baby shampoos/baths have lots of chemicals that aren't very good for anyone, especially babies.
I can point you to some website that can help you find some organic products that don't contain any of the nasties...just send me a message.
:)
vaseline also actually helps a bit for eczema too.
i had a friend finally sent off the island for all the weird allergies and eczema issues her kid has developed since being here. she says she's 100% better now. must just be a lot of irritants here.
my cousin used to make this paste/mask out of oatmeal for her bad patches of eczema, i'll have to ask her for a recipe, but it was oatmeal, a little hot milk.. and maybe some avocado or something. can't recall. i bet you could google something similar.
I have it on my fingers and toes from time to time. I used to pop them until I found out what it was, now I just leave them alone and let them dry up. I know...gross!! I dont see how vaseline would work...but I will definitely try it the next time they pop up.
Okay as it turns out he has eczema on his face and the all over body rash is something he's allergic to in the air (thus the reason it got worse when I'd take him outside).
They said it's common lately and they were misdiagnosing it as a fungal infection but it is not. They gave me some steroid cream and I am to follow up next week.
I've tried the Vaseline on his face and it made it worse, the Eucerin made it worse too. I am going back to Burts Bees as it has helped the most. I've heard coconut oil helps too so I might try that.
Casey I'd love to try the recipe if you can get it from her, but I will google too.
We're visiting the states in July and I am certain that it'll be better while we're there and flare up again when we come back. I'm doubtful my husbands command would see it necessary for us to leave though :(

There must be a lot of weird crap floating in the air on this island. My husband was having breathing problems (has been since we moved here) and the doc diagnosed him with something to do with his voicebox. He recently went TDY to Hawaii, guess what he could breath 100% there no problems, The minute he came back here breathing problems again.
My daughter constantly has itchy red watery eyes that are glued shut every morning (no it's not pink eye) since we came over here also.

That sounds like allergies to me. Mine used to get like that-I actually barely react here, surprisingly.

Yeah they have her on Zyrtec but it don't seem to be doing much for her.

It's not working for me either. I am having allergy issue twice a day, and sometimes it lasts all day long. And now they seem to turn into minor sinus infections.
Also, my allergies were so bad in ND that I had to take oral meds (Clarinex) plus use Flonase and a prescription eyedrop just to keep it under control. :(

i had all that because i had occasional bad allergies in montana, whenever something irritating was in bloom. it got a lot worse when we moved to florida.. but here i'm not so bad.
here's what my cousin says she's using on her eczema lately:
half an avocado ( i would use a whole one if you buy the small ones in a bag of 5)
tablespoon of honey, tablespoon of oatmeal. mash it all together, and smooth on the eczema spots for 15-20 minutes, then rinse off.
some people need different stuff. do they have childrens claritin?
They also had her on claritin and it didn't do crap for her either. IDK what she is allergic to. I put one of those zip around covers on her brand new allergy free mattress and also on her pillows, took all her stuffed animals out of her bed and removed her carpet. Not much more for me too do...LOL
My daughter is 5 and has been struggling with eczema for the entire 3 years we've been here. I bought this stuff from the commissary called Oils of Aloha. It's made in Hawaii and claims to be great for eczema. I put it on my daughter for about 5 days straight 2 times a day and it was almost completely gone. I bought the oil and the moisturizing cream but I think the oil works better. It was on an end cap near the meat at the Kadena commissary. Good Luck!!
Update: I was told that it might be coral dust that he's allergic to.
But the best part is a friend gave me a lotion called Refresh by Melaleuca and it's the only thing that worked! Not to mention it's not super greasy like Eucerin or the eczema cream and it smells good! :)
