OK, so my sister in law told me there was this art store around here that I would LOVE.. its a 3 story building, with lots of different art-type stores inside.. sells books, paints, paint supplies, notebooks, reading books, coloring books, pens, pencils, etc, etc, etc.. back then, when she was living here, it was called YellowBox, but now, YellowBox is a furniture store.. Does anyone know this store that she's talking about, if its still called YellowBox or what, as well as its whereabouts? I'd love to find this store!! I'm all about painting and art, and I'd love to begin painting again. Any info would be great!! Thanks OU. :) 

It's not uncommon for things to translate into the same thing in English. There's like four or five places I know of that are named the same thing, on different parts of the island, in english. Totally different stuff inside.

nope.. she just said that i'd love this store.. 3 stories, nothing but drawing/art stuff, and called YellowBox.. so she wasnt really all that much help.. which she very rarely IS any help, but.. LOL

When we went out gate three of Kadena- and took a right- we saw quite a few yellow buildings- obviously it cannot be the YellowBox (furniture)
But maybe it's one of the others? 

There's a Yellow Box store on Chuo Park Ave. 

It sounds like the store by Foster. Maybe it's Green Notes or something like that. I've been in there a lot, and it's all very much crafty.

From the comments here it seems that noone knows of the special Yellow Box store.
Perhaps your sister-in-law does not really like you and is sending you on a wild goose chase for some artsy craftsy placey.

She just might be laughing as she is imagining you driving up and down the little roads of Okinawa looking at every building that either has some yellow color on it or looks like a box. That narrows it down. (j/k)

If she lived here for more than a month she should have been able to give you more information about this place, what city, near what base, gate, etc.

However, not all hope is lost for finding some fingerpaints and paint-by-number books in Okinawa.

I think JennaDoll figured it out. Your sister-in-law might be colorblind. Yellow is green?

Even if it not the same place your SIL was talking about, from their website this Green Note store looks very similar and has lots of stuff. I have never been there, but might have to stop by one day when I get in a crafty mood.
