I usually handle all of our finances. My husband has his GTC set up, to where when he goes on TDY, the whole voucher gets paid to the GTC, and they cut him a check for the overages if there are any. (or maybe that's how it's always done?) Well, he went on a TDY about a month ago, and it hasn't been paid out yet. He should have had an overage of nearly $700.

We're not 'counting' on that money, but that also means that since it hasn't been paid out, his GTC will be coming due as well. He will owe a big chunk of money to it, and if we can help it, I don't want to pay it out of our savings, because it's not our fault the voucher hasn't been paid. He's done everything he needed to do, and it's just sort of sitting in limbo.

Apparently, who ever is in his shop or command or whatever that does the vouchers/approves them, is gone (leave? tdy? deployed?) I don't know where to. There is no one else that is allowed/able to pay it out or approve it. Is there a way around this?

I'm assuming that the GTC affects his credit score, and that is very irratating.

this happens to every one.. all the time. it would help to know what branch your husband is in to help you out though.

JessicaB --- 13 years ago -

Maybe just have him go straight to finance himself...

JennaDoll --- 13 years ago -

AF. We've never had it happen, and he doesn't have the 'best' credit anyway, I don't want it to get worse because people in his shop aren't allowed to approve something, and they send the ONLY one away.

JessicaB. If he explained it all correctly, it's all done over the computer now, and before it even goes to finance, someone in his office has to approve it.

JessicaB --- 13 years ago -

Ok yeah if you are AF that is correct but if that person is gone and there is no one there to approve it, my hubby (we are AF also) suggested he go to finance anyways and explain that to them so you don't even up paying it...we have had to do that...and they took care of it....

There's always someone else that can do it. I highly doubt his unit only has one DTS AO.

Yep, if the first person is gone, there is usually a 2nd and often a 3rd. Contact the GTC account manager at finance and they can tell you who all has authority to approve it.

This happened to my husband once and it took them nine months to repay us after we paid the GTC. Good luck!

Casey --- 13 years ago -

yea, we've had this happen a few times, some people it happens almost every time. it's a pain and not fair sometimes.

does he have the new GTC?

Next time after 30 days (billing cycle) contact the IG. Things will move faster!

I doubt it, his shop sucks. Although, I will be calling finance tomorrow. Or making him.

Will do, thanks for the advice.

Is he a Marine attached to 3rd Mar DIV? If so, the person you are looking for would be my husband and yes he is TDY but will be back soon. Tell your husband to go to S1 and have them help him. (He is suppose to go to them first.) Did he fill out his travel info within the 5 days? If not that could be part of the problem.

BTW it may be in your best interest to have him call and handle his own GTC/military information.

Casey --- 13 years ago -

no worries OI.. her husband is airforce.
