lady next to me at the shopette left hers while she ran in to get some things. she's taught the kid to duck down, because as soon as i pulled in that little head dove.
she came out right as i was getting ready to get out of the car and stand there... it's not my business how people parent.. but a 3-4 year old doesn't belong in a car alone. running or not.
speaking of which. i would really think you were talking about my old neighbor in her yellow van, if she were still on island. that's exactly who came to mind when i read this.
Must have been a good day. The mom I saw at Foster left her two kids in the car, but she was smart enough to shut off the engine and remove the keys. They just sat there buckled in with the rear doors open.
I agree Culp. I find it much safer for my kids to be buckled in the car, rather than so close to the road when I am (obviously) distracted and have to divide my attention.
i also agree with the ATM. i am so nervous about getting caught though, despite what i think about that rule, that i usually take them with me. if we're by gate 2 i make them sit on the weird planter bench they leave there. if we're at the fairchild.. i roll down the windows and talk to them while i do it. people get annoyed that i duck my head out and don't just finish what i'm doing.. but i'd rather annoy people than have my kid dart out into the parking lot and get hit.
Well i'm a bad mom, call the parent police i leave Z in the car when i run in to check the mail.. The nice thing is i can walk in and see if i have mail before i have to walk all the way around to do the little knob thing. Mine opens up to the counter.. If i have mail then i text the man and say get the mail on your way home i'm to tired to check it.
that's stupid. an 8 year old? that's around the age my mom let me stay in the car for 5 to 10 minutes... and my mom wouldn't even let me walk the 5 blocks to school.
i'm normally in and out in like 2 minutes so its not long.. I can see the back of our box, to see if there is mail.. i can't tell you the last time i checked the mail.. hummmm December? I would hate to be a Working mom taking up the up close parking spots.
really? someone should tell that mom who got her driving privledges taken away for leaving her 3 kids under 3 while she went in the post office to STOP freaking telling people they can't leave their kids in the car at the ATM.
post office and ATM are two totally different situations. AM's kid is old enough in my opinion... 3 and under is not.
that makes more sense now actually too, because you are allowed to leave kids 5 and up outside and not actually be watching them.. but you can see them IN the car right there... silly base and their unclear rule chart.
And I would print out the rules as they're written to bring in with me if I ever got in trouble at the ATM. If I am standing next to my car or a few feet away and I can see my children, they aren't unsupervised.
I say leave your brats at home in the closet with a bowl full of cheerio's .. That is what most responsible parents do.Why burden us with the sight of your kids..
because you are allowed to leave kids 5 and up outside and not actually be watching them..
See, that makes me wonder too-I thought they could be at oh, the park by themselves, or that my 5 year old could wait outside the post office by himself.
But the chart says they have to be within direct sight or hearing of an adult...
I hope I never see a parent do this cause I will write their info and turn them in . I am a mother of 3 and I have never thought of leaving them in the car for a second.
If I am standing next to my car or a few feet away and I can see my children, they aren't unsupervised.
exactly what i think.
i did see a story on dr. phil once about a lady who almost had her kids taken for a while because she parked on the curb at walmart and walked 8 feet to let the older two drop money in the bell ringers bucket. a cop saw her and arrested her, they waited until her husband got there to take the kids home. they had pictures of how far it was, and her husbands truck didn't even fit in the gap between where she had her car, and where she walked to... the 2 year old she left in the car was buckled in a car seat asleep, with the heat on so she didn't have to wake her and get her cold.
that has always made me scared to even return a cart more than two cars away to the cart return. a lot of the time i park really close to a cart return so i don't feel bad about walking the cart over, or abandoning a cart. i don't like walking the kids a long distance from dropping a cart off either.. because usually by the time we leave the BX all three of us are cranky....
