Hey everybody, I'm new to this site! Just curious if anybody knows what they are saying over the loud speaker announcements off base at around 1830 every day. I just moved off base and now I just wanna know. Thanks in advance!
These offbase announcements perplex most Americans and some Okinawans. After the 3-11 disaster in Japan, Yokota Air Base started translating the announcements made offbase in Fussa City. The translations were posted on the Yokota base Facebook page daily under the postings headed with: "The Fussa Big Voice Says".
What they are saying depends on where you live. Each town/city and sometimes neighborhood have different announcements.
"Americans Suck" ??? They really don't need to announce it daily since the majority of Okinawans ( and many other people all over the world) are already well aware of this. :-/
The loud speakers are at schools, they announce the closing of the school day for most students. We hear them all the time as well up where we live. We have three huge schools near us, and a friend that is married to a local told me that is what we hear is end of day announcements. :c)
