If you (or your child) found something and a reward was being offered, would you take it? would you allow your child to take it?

I personally would not. I was just curious what others would do.

All Abouts --- 13 years ago -

Nope, I would not, finders are not keepers in my house, there for giving back should be a normal thing.
The only time we pay or allow others to pay/tip the kids is if they are working.. and favors dont count.. it must be working.. it goes to all my kids

Amurikan Lunatic --- 13 years ago -

I would keep what I found if it was worth more than the reward.

tabsmonsters --- 13 years ago -

I would make sure it made it back to it's owner and I would make sure my children returned it too. It's what I would want done if the situation were reversed.

Nicole --- 13 years ago -

I meant would you accept the reward. I would assume most people would return the item, but would you accept the reward? Or refuse?

Chuck --- 13 years ago -

Sure, why not?

tabsmonsters --- 13 years ago -

Ahh, sorry about that. No, we wouldn't take the reward. Doing the right thing should be because it's the right thing to do, not because you get money for it.

LovedLivingInOki --- 13 years ago -

Sometimes a reward is the motivation people need to pay more attention to their surroundings and actually look for something. My first reply to a reward would be "no, thanks" but I don't think it's bad to accept if it's offered. Maybe allow the child to accept the reward but request that they "pay it forward" so that one good thing leads to another good thing.

I like what LovedLivingInOki said, about paying it forward. I also think it would depend on the circumstances. Some drunk guy left his cell at the bar, I'll keep the reward, some little kid dropped his/her favorite toy or lost their kitten, I wouldn't.

You could also just tell the person offering the reward to donate it rather than giving it to you.

FkYouPanda --- 13 years ago -

Yes. It's not even a question. If it's offered then take it I say. Why not?
