Babysitting problems????

No comment. Just thought it would make for an interesting topic :-)

THEMRSBOSS --- 13 years ago -

Just incase it gets deleted for being "spammy" ....

I just wanted to advise you all to be cautious about who you let watch your children. Not only have I personally had a bad experience with a babysitter I hired from here, but I see so many people letting their 12 and 13 and 14 yr old children babysit! It is ridiculous. I was naive and allowed someone to come in my home and keep my child whom I didn't know. It turned out horribly. If you want to know specifics inbox me but I feel like it is unprofessional, being a fellow babysitter myself, to talk negatively about this person on here for the public to see. I just really want to stress how easy it is for something bad to happen. I know being far away from friends and family is stressful and sometimes, you really do need a break and a night out. But be cautious with who you leave your child with. A night of freedom from your child is not worth the things that could happen if you choose a bad sitter. I've heard horror stories from other women who have hired from here as well. Just throwing this out there because I see too many people on here advertising babysitting and it makes me wonder which ones are REALLY trustworthy and which ones are just out to get you. People should babysit because they love children, as I do. Not for a buck, not for an "easy 20 bucks" or anything else. I mean ofcourse you want to get compensation for your services, but some people take it to the extreme. Do the least they can to earn that dollar. Babysitting is not about that. I have been doing it for years, and I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoy every minute of it. If you are a babysitter, and you are one of those that just are looking for a easy way to earn a dollar, and you aren't going to THOROUGHLY take care of the kids you are babysitting, please don't advertise up here. I think I speak for all the moms when I say we want RELIABLE, TRUSTWORTHY, HONEST people who are going to treat our children as they deserve to be treated, and nothing less.

I laugh everytime I see the "I need a babysitter ASAP tonight!" On Friday and Saturday evenings.

Like an open invitation for any creepo to come stay with your kids so you can go out on the town.....

When you invite a stranger to your home to babysit, you take your chances. Duh.

Chuck --- 13 years ago -

I see no problem with 12-14 yr olds babysitting.

This is where the problem lies...

Me either. I've had a 14 year old watch my children. I wouldn't leave an infant with someone that young, but that's just me.

I've seen 14 yr olds that have infants of their own.

Don't remind me. My girls are going on mandatory BC at 14.

That's good parenting. I'm glad to see you're not one of these parents with their head in the sand thinking "not my kid".

Safety first. Take all precautions.

Casey --- 13 years ago -

i know well enough that my daughters are going to do things i don't necessarily want them doing... mine will probably be on BC then too. we'll cross that bridge when we get to it though, as every kid is different.

and i agree with culp... the first problem is that the person was a stranger. i meet babysitters before i decide to hire them... and i don't leave the kids for a very long time the first time either, if i don't already know the person watching them well.

Many of those teenagers have had babysitting training. My oldest took a babysitting bootcamp class and became certified in CPR. That's more training than some of the adults posting have.

Nicole --- 13 years ago -

I'm totally advertising myself as a last minute babysitter when we move...screw getting a real job.

Genius.

How many times do you need to meet someone before they are no longer a stranger?

There are no strangers in a bar. Everyone's my friend there.
