ok so i always see this person selling JKC registered puppies on OYS. When I first got here (and didnt know the ongoing puppy mill problem) my husband contacted a woman on japanupdate because her ad said she had yorkies, maltese, bulldog, lab, etc etc. Well he told me a surprise was coming in about an hour.
I waited for an hour and the woman showed up with the CUTEST little yorkie. Something wasnt quite right about it though......oh yeah it could be that the dog was COVERED in shiit and piss! It was shaking and scared and smelled horribly! By this time I wanted to save this poor little animal so i told my husband to go buy some dog shampoo. He did and I washed the little girl in the sink.
Still she wouldnt liven up and I wondered why. I was cleaning her face and looked in her mouth and **GASP** this little puppy didnt have TEETH!! She wasnt ready to be weened off of her mommy yet. No wonder she wasnt eating the bowl of food left by the door!
Well, I was sitting on my couch trying to dry her off and she throws up green stuff ALL OVER ME! Ugh! I was disguisted at this point, called the lady and got our $1000 dollars back and she took the puppy away.
Before she left I told her it was absolutely animal cruelty to take a puppy away from its mommy before it is ready to be weened for monetary purposes! I would have totally paid for the little girl early and waited for her to be ready to go. UGH!
I guess there really wasnt a point to this post other then to share my story. We have a Golden Retriever whom came from PetBox and I bet a puppy mill and he is the best damn thing around but we got him from a previous owner. I guess its just sad that the locals think its ok to do this to dogs....Just like I think its sad that the locals let their kids jump around in the car and sit in the front seat with no seat belt. But thats another post for another day;)
Sometimes I wonder if they know how much harm they are causing by doing nothing breeding these dogs. they are overpopulating Oki with dogs who dont even have a chance at a normal life and eventually they will be left on the streets to die.
Someone just posted an ad saying they found a yellow lab/oki mix in the rain. THATS SAD! Who can just let their damn dog go like that. And because it is oki mix, it will be AMAZING if someone gets it because all anyone is looking for over here is pure breds.
I havent paid any money for any of my animals as I have 2 cats whom I rescued and a golden who was given to me. I just dont quite understand the japanese mentality of life I guess:(
I have an oki mix too. She's a great dog.. I might have to rehome her soon though :( My almost 2 year old is too rough with her and sometimes she snaps at her.
I have a Oki. She was a stray and she is the best dog. She is very low key. And we have a Oki cat too. same way. I will never pay over 2000 dollars for an animal. When that stuff could be spent other places.
oh yeah i flagged the hell out of that local who was selling that damn bulldog for $2500! THAT IS A DOWN PAYMENT ON CAR!!
I personally think that if u spend that much $ on a dog you need your head examined! I am sorry, but no dog is worth $2500 unless it can clean my house and make dinner and walk itself. lol!
I would never pay that much for a dog. I have always gotten my dogs from an animal shelter. THose animals NEED a home. Plus they seem to appreciate you more! I am actually in the process of adopting 2 Rottweilers from Rescue center in my home town. They will be ready for me to visit with when I get home and then once my house is set up I can go and pick them up.
I see all the animals that need homes here and fell that until the issue of overpopulation is under control they should not sell any more puppies.
Just my thoughts.
I just can't believe that people can put out that much money for them. I believe it may be "impulse" buying too- that is why we keep seeing animals back up for sale after they realize they spent way too much on them? I don't know, I just could find a whole lot more to do than spend $1000- $2500 on a puppy. There must really be some animal lovers out there to be purchasing them at such high price. It must actually be nice to just have that kind of money to spend all out of one paycheck. I just must be too thrifty of a person. I have a hard time spending much money as it is. I like the idea of my neighbor who has the most adorable little Pomeranian..and she got hers for free (you would never know) as she was an abandoned pup..All my neighbor has paid for were her shots, food and such. So to me, this is a success story to be adopted and given much love. Did I mention she was free? :) I too agree that there are so many animals here that need to be rescued.
Okay so here's my take on it, again. If you want to pay that much for a pet (my opinion is thats CRAZY). BUT if you do choose to do so, do your research and go through a good reputable breeder...not a damn puppy mill...YIKES! I mean why buy into these peoples cruelty to animals...let's be frank that's what it is and they are making a fortune doing it. Stupid puppy mills :(
So I emailed the girl out of curiousity that has the pit-bull puppy for $2500 (it's sold now) to ask why the pup goes for this much..this was her reply:
yeah.."its natural its fure breed ..and its only baby the more young the more expensive"
Interesting..
I sent her an e-mail too - telling her how disgusting it is that she is doing this. I am super against puppy mills. Although I did buy my puppy from Pet Box and I know that she was probably from a puppy mill. She had been there for a few months and I didn't want them to put her down. I figured that it was better that I buy her and give her a loving home then some local buy her and breed her or something. It's just a lose-lose situation with the pet stores.

hence why i got a f*cking dog with no goddamn teeth! OMG! I cannot believe that someone would buy a puppy that isnt even ready to be taken away from the mothers milk yet! stupid japanese people thinking that its ok to do this to poor animals! REPEAT AFTER ME: These are animals, not an income!!!
The problem isn't the sellers, it's us dumb Americans paying rediculous prices for dogs that we can't even take care of. I'm a dog lover, but know that I don't have the time to take care of one right now, and from what I've seen around the island, most owners can't take care of them either.

Well I think it is a problem when people are trying to sell dogs from puppy mills directly on OYS. Yes, some people cannot take care of their dogs but that's not everyone. I have a dog and 3 cats and my husband and I work and our animals get tons of attention and are spoiled rotten. We are able to take them to the vet if anything comes up and I say that we take great care of them. But for me, the main problem is the puppy mills.
Nikki, you are the exception, but the majority of owners that I have come across here on island have their dogs filthy. The dogs stink and their household is a mess, to include their pets pooping in neighbor yards. I find it hard to believe that the owners don't notice these things, but I've come to the conclusion that they have become immune to the filth, or they are living up to the old believe that the dogs look like their owners. This would explain how they could keep their home looking (and smelling) like a dog-house. These are the people that I have a problem with, especially of they pay a lot of money for their dog.
You all know that those ads are for the store just outside gate 1 called PuppyLuv, not only do they overprice their dogs, I know 4 people who have bought overpriced dogs from there and they have died!
They should be reported to legal in my opinion

not gonna do anything unfortunately..it goes back to the japanese letting their kids ride with no seat belts on. I would hate for them to get into a bad accident and that poor child get ejected from the car. my husband was in a HORRIBLE accident when he was 15 and was the only one wearing his seat belt and he lived. His girlfriend at the time died because she was ejected from the car!
ooooooooh now that I didnt know! she could be working for one of the locals and then they definitely cant do anything. but if she is breeding on base, she is DONE! the lady who delivered my $1000 sick yorkie was american but working for the japanese. she was the "middle man" shall I say.
Oh - yeah she def does work with japanese breeders, one of my friends who puppy died found out the breeder had a LARGE puppy mill.
I just cant believe so many people still buy dogs from there
I totally agree, I almost threw up when she showed me the pictures of the van she took that delivered the puppies to the shop, she took them when she was leaving the guy forgot to shut the van door.
