POLL - Do you recycle?

Just curious how many of us recycle. As I was driving through my neighborhood this morning I didn't see a lot of bags on the curb. If you do not, can you explain why?

I vote yes because it is what I have been doing my whole life.

Mary Von --- 15 years ago -

I never recycle until now, If I dont recycle the trash man wont take it lol

*Shelbysmomma* --- 15 years ago -

ok, i thought you HAD to recycle here. we always put our recyclables out on thurdays but nobody else does. im wondering if we are the weird ones or if they are?

Jennifer --- 15 years ago -

I somewhat recycle. I used to do it all the time.... and then got tired of them being so darn picky! If they seriously want us to recycle then do a darn job! I had a few things out there one time and the darn milk cartons weren't FULLY dry, so they didn't take them.... that's just retarded! If they are so worried about people recycling then they shouldn't be so stupid about it! haha

Brooke --- 15 years ago -

I think off base you have too, and I wish you had to on base as well.

Mary Von --- 15 years ago -

I think off base you have too Yup, Like I said, if you dont, they leave the trash there, or come knock at your door lol

JC --- 15 years ago -

I recycle so much that I usually have one garbage bag a week for trash day, maybe two at most. I figured with the enviroment now it's the least I can do for my children in the future

courtney --- 15 years ago -

Just curious how many of us recycle. As I was driving through my neighborhood this morning I didn't see a lot of bags on the curb. If you do not, can you explain why? Mine is in my storage, my husband always took it out. I forgot! :)

Ash-Uh-Ley! --- 15 years ago -

I think you are suppose to do it on base too, they just dont really pay attentiong. We seperate burnable and non burnable, so I guess thats recycling..right?

Sara --- 15 years ago -

I recycle our plastic bottles and milk cartons. I don't do cans, I use MAYBE one a week, and since you're "supposed" to seperate it, I'm not gonna have a can sitting in my house till I use enough to fill a bag. So, I recycle all but the can a week I suppose...

So, I recycle all but the can a week I suppose... I recycle. :) And Sara, I usually have two bags for recycling...one contains (Plastic/Tin Cans/Soda Cans/Glass Jars) and the other contains Boxes. They always take ours without question. I'm like you and don't use a ton of cans, it's mostly plastic water bottles. I'd use more bags and separate them better if we actually had bins to put them in. Ours are always thrown into the storage room outside, which is a pain in the butt.

*eLLe --- 15 years ago -

Oh, and I live on base. :)

Kitty --- 15 years ago -

I recycle but here it frustrates me that we have to bag everything that we are recycling separately. I understand it is helpful but I think it is wasteful because what are you bagging with. . . plastic bags. . . I don't get them often because I use the cloth ones so it's a pain but I do it anyway.

They pay an army of japanese people to sort out the trash. I feel like I am supporting Okinawan jobs by not recycling.

They pay an army of japanese people to sort out the trash. I feel like I am supporting Okinawan jobs by not recycling. So are you telling me they go through all the garbage on base and take out the recyclables? And about the plastic bags, I ran out too, but I posted on OYS and there are a lot of people that have a ton of bags at their house.

mwr885 --- 15 years ago -

So are you telling me they go through all the garbage on base and take out the recyclables? From what I understand, yes.

Holly --- 15 years ago -

Yeah, when we lived off base we asked about recycling and they said not to because they sort thru the trash anyways. On top of that, homeless would go thru it too looking for whatever they get money out of or just keep for themselves. I would save up the cans for one of them and hand it to him when I would see him. On base, we did the whole sorting thing and it just sat on our curb. No one came and got it. I never see recycling trucks.

MissingColorado --- 15 years ago -

Who has time to sort the trash? I don't. Who cares. Now if I can get the little bastards to empty my trash can all the way we'll be good.

mwr885 --- 15 years ago -

We used to sort it but then I noticed that the same trash guy picked up everything and trew it into the back of the truck. Then I heard about the trash sorting people. Now I don't bother

Oki Insanity --- 15 years ago -

We recycle just about everything. Cans, glass, paper, batteries, etc. We live on McT and they come on Tuesday for us. We have those blue bins and I still bag each group into clear bags. My issue is, on the days that it's windy, there is always recycled material blowing all over the neighborhood. It drives me crazy because I have to spend the next day cleaning everybody else's crap out of my yard.

Now I don't bother This is what we noticed too and were told that they sorted also. I have always seen them put it in the regular garbage truck.

Wish you were me --- 15 years ago -

yup I always do as in NYC we have to recycle or we get a ticket (disposal ticket)...

It drives me crazy because I have to spend the next day cleaning everybody else's crap out of my yard.  That peeves me too. And the funny thing is they won't take it unless it is bagged so there are some neighbors that leave it out for weeks and it just blows around.

Brittany --- 15 years ago -

I recycle, but I live off base and they are so picky about certain things that it frustrates me to no end!

JenMBH --- 15 years ago -

We recycle becuase you are supposed toand because it's what is best for the enviroment. That's what you get the little bins for. You don't have to bag it all seperate as long as it will stay in the bin. Ours is usually more than the bin though so we do end up bagging a lot. Wednesday is our recyle day so maybe that's why when you were drivng around you didn't see many bags out?? Each area has a different day. Friday is our bulk trash day.. dang I forgot to put my carpet out!!! :(

JenMBH --- 15 years ago -

But yes I do agree, if it's windy it should be bagged up and have something to HOLD IT DOWN. That trash flying around is just gross, even though it's supposed to be clean, sometimes people don't rinse their stuff out.

lilloudymouth --- 15 years ago -

I didnt use to until my daughter came home from school on earth day and said "mama why dont we recycle, dont you care about the earth?" I have been recycling ever since lol

Kitty --- 15 years ago -

You don't have to bag it all seperate as long as it will stay in the bin. That's funny they won't take it if it is not bagged in separate bags at least when they come by my way. They leave all of them there in the bin with a note that has "it must be bagged" taped to my bin. They have done that twice now once for me and once for my husband who just had to see it himself.
