Since there is SOOOOO much baby talk, it got me thinking... How did your hubbys act before the arrival of their first child? I have babies around me left and right, but he never wants to hold them..I thought that he would be more excited about the babies but lets face it, he isn't me. He isn't excited about picking out the clothes, just the big things. Were your hubbys like this?

I tried to give mine away to the gypsies.

My husband was very nervous before our daughter was born. He never spent any time around babies and wasn't really sure how to handle them. He wasn't really into picking out baby stuff either and I could tell he was mostly doing it for me. The second she was born, everything changed. He loves holding her, playing with her, getting her dressed... all that stuff. I wouldn't worry about him not wanting to hold other babies. They aren't his children and he may not feel a bond with them. I'm sure once your baby is here, he will be very excited. Just make sure you encourage him as he is learning and not take over. That was the hardest part for me and I had to constantly remind myself that he isn't going to do things exactly the way I would and it's ok.

He's a closet baby lover. I think you just outted him. :)

He treated me like a queen while I was pregnant. He did whatever I asked him to do. For example.... He drove 3 hours to get some damn Chick Fil A for me cause I was craving it soooooo bad! Then I cried while eating it b/c the gesture was so goddamn sweet.

Before and after our first, he was a big baby person. After our second, we both avoid holding them. lol.

ChiTown: yeah I'm thinking things will hange when it is his child he holds for the first time, I just kids wanted him to be as enthused as I am. Then again, I am and always have been in love with babies and baby stuff! Lol I just don't think the ooing and aweing isn't for him when it isn't his..

ChiTownGrl --- 15 years ago -

Just be patient with him. If he still isn't excited once your baby is here, then you can start to worry haha

Caitlin --- 15 years ago -

yeah I dont think that will happen:) It sounds cliche' but I have faith in him:)

My husband never wants to hold other peoples kids but when our son was born he was great! I was so freaked out by the circumcision so he changed all the diapers till he healed up. Im sure once he is around your baby everything will change.

Caitlin --- 15 years ago -

Yeah I would be scared of the whole circumcision thing. I would be really nervous about wiping the pee pee and not hurting him even more, cause lets face it, getting your pee pee cut doesnt sound like fun:)

I would be really nervous about wiping the pee pee and not hurting him even more, cause lets face it, getting your pee pee cut doesnt sound like fun:) It was:) Im known to be a bit anxious but my husband is the exact opposite. He is so calm in those situations and it really helped.

My husband is off and on. I'm a horrible sleeper so he'd get up with them in the middle of the night. He's really not helpful at all during pregnancy and he'll only hold his own babies. I'm really independent though so I didn't want him treating me special when I was pregnant. It all evens out. Every guy is different and most will adjust better once the baby is born :)

So far, the only thing I really ask him to do so far is when we arrived home from the plane ride back, my feet were SO SWOLLEN! I mean, I have never been swollen before, so this was completely new to me. I asked him to get me a pillow to put under my feet and then he offered to rub them for me which felt really amazing:) Oooo and I have asked him a couple of times to get me some ice cream..I love ice cream! lol
