My neighbor has magic Jack and haaaaaates it. She's always complaining about it cutting out and dropping calls. You get what you pay for I guess?
I like my vonage. It works good and is worth the $$ to me.
i've had both and have had problems with both but magic jack was horrible. my problem with vonage is that when people call we can hear them but they can't hear us or sometimes we try to make a call out and it just won't go thru. very frustrating!
i had that problem with vonage, and i googled it. apparently, if you sign in, and go to features, and then go to bandwidth saver, and put it on the lowest setting..it should fix it.
I love my magicjack. We have 7 years of service and we paid $70. I haven't had any problems with calls dropping. Sometimes the line will be really quiet, but that's about it.
I have magic jack. I honestly think it's my phone but it may the the magic jack IDK, Sometimes when i am using it I will hear like a static noise usually around 3 times. I really think it is just my phone but we will see. Other than that I don't have any issues with it. It serves the purpose I use it for and it is cheap service no monthly phone bills. I guess it's all in what you prefer :-)
Do you get wireless internet at your house? Like here, we have our internet box but our laptops are wireless. So we dont have to be hooked into them to use them. Is that an option there?
does anyone just use skype?
I also use skype. Not as much as the magic jack though. Yes you can buy a wireless router for your home but it is not provided through the internet service here on base (if you live in base housing...don't know how it works off base). We have regular internet hook up box through the internet provider and then our wireless router hooked up to that so we can use our laptops downstairs.
Vonage is the way to go, internet connections are nothing here like they are in the states but they get the job done, so your connection will be pretty fluid, letting you talk anytime without any startups or dropped calls. Sure you're gonna miss out on the $70 for 7 year plan, but whats more important? Your $ or the ability to talk to K.I.T. with your family?
We have Skype and I love it. We also have a phone number for our local area code so people can call us.
This. Skype is basically the same as Vonage only you have the option of video and it's way cheaper.

this is true... As for having wireless in your house, you're going to need to invest in either a really good wireless router like an Apple AirPort Extreme Home Base Station or have multiple access points throughout your house connected Via Ethernet Cable to the main wirless router.
Not if you live off base. Off base, the Internet is better than the states, especially if you have fiber optic.
Obviously, but what about those who are about to come over here like Airwinger... They don't have the option of living off base anymore until the on base housing it at 80%...so i'd still stick with my advice on that one. I wish we could get fiber optic on base... that would be SWEEET!
Ghetto? Since when is on base the ghetto? F that dude, our place is great. We onl y have a year left here anyway, I am not moving all my shit out in town for a year... Italy's next baby! WOOO!
i had cheapo 3 year old belkin router that worked just fine here. why would you need anything fancy for wifi in your house? and before you say it, yes my house is solid concrete like every other on base. they even saved themselves a little work and skipped over all the drywalling.
We dont need anything fancy. Whatever we have now isn't fancy, its just what came with our internet. I didnt know what they offered there, and I'm not great with computers
