Share your favorite healthy recipes. I am trying to eat healthy and I have some very picky eaters around my house. So please share some of your yummy healthy repipes that you may have :-) TIA Please the answer Google is not necessary! I am asking y'all....not the internet if you have some recipes you may want to share. I have already googled some good recipes. :-D

Paul --- 15 years ago -

I dropped 5 lbs just by lowering my portions. That is a good start. Sorry that I don't have any recipes though.

Rebecca --- 15 years ago -

What kind of foods does your family like eating? I have a Eat Well, Lose Weight cookbook but there's hundreds of recipes in it.

Nicole --- 15 years ago -

I personally just modify a lot of my "usual" recipes. Or modify not as healthy recipes. For instance, I never, ever use heavy whipping cream or whole milk. (I don't bake-so it's not an issue). I replace the cream with fat-free half and half and the whole milk with skim. I use a little cornstarch for thickening if necessary. We eat brown rice, 100% whole wheat bread, and wheat pasta. I try to avoid jarred stuff. I do still buy stuff like Ragu once in awhile, but I prefer to make my own spaghetti sauce-it's super easy, and has no added sugar. I substitute applesauce for oil in stuff like muffins, cakes (when I do make them, lol) and splenda for sugar. I also just bought white-whole wheat flour-it's fantastic for making bread, muffins, etc-you get the nutrition of whole wheat flour, without as much of the wheat taste/texture.

Crock Pot Chicken 6 boneless, skinless chicken thighs 2 sweet potatoes, peeled, cut into cubes 1 onion, peeled, cut into wedges 1/2 tsp crushed dried thyme 1/4 tsp ground black pepper 2 bay leaves 3 1/2 cups water 2 season packages from chicken flavor ramen Layer chicken, sweet potatoes and onion in the bottom of a 3qt crock pot. Sprinkle w/ the pepper, thyme and and Bay leaves. Use about 1/2 cup water to mix the ramen season packs into. Add to the crock pot, and then the other 3 cups of water. Cook on low for about 7 hours. This one is really yummy, easy and pretty healthy too: )

I substitute applesauce for oil in stuff like muffins, cakes (when I do make them, lol) and splenda for sugar. When you do this...say it calls for 1TBSP of oil or whatever, do you use the EXACT same amount of applesauce or is it a different amount?

I dropped 5 lbs just by lowering my portions. That is a good start. Yah I have already started doing that. I am eating at least 6 times a day. My energy is through the roof. :-D What kind of foods does your family like eating? I can't cook anything that involves raw or cooked tomatoes.....Hubby and kids don't like it...LOL. So when i get spagetti sauce I have to get the stuff w/o chunks in it or make them pick it out (it's easier to just get the non chunky stuff). If that helps any. Any other vegetable and meats is fine. I am sticking with mostly chicken and fish....I only bought red meat to make stew and some steaks to put on the grill. No hamburger. I got turkey burgers (we will see how they taste..**shivers**...LOL )

Nicole --- 15 years ago -

When you do this...say it calls for 1TBSP of oil or whatever, do you use the EXACT same amount of applesauce or is it a different amount? Exact same amount yes. I buy the unsweetened stuff-or the sweetened with splenda stuff. I don't notice a difference with stuff like cake mixes, but things like muffins and breads are definitely a little more dense. I don't mind it at all, but it takes some time getting used to. Pancakes on the other hand, I tend to use oil-they are just too dense for me.

♥Mrs. Boss ♥ --- 15 years ago -

I just know I am eventually going to get sick of chicken and fish....LOL.

Nicole --- 15 years ago -

When I make my spaghetti sauce, I put whole canned tomatoes in it-but you can always puree it before/after. Or use tomato puree. Or tell them to pick out the chunks-but I'm mean like that. What I serve is what I serve. if you don't like it, you don't eat. End of story.

What I serve is what I serve. if you don't like it, you don't eat. End of story. That is how I am getting to be. If you don't like it then either starve or cook yourself dinner! LOL :-D

Rebecca --- 15 years ago -

Well if you would like to I could let you borrow the book, well, until the 25th when my husband gets back and I actually have to cook again. But it would give you the chance to look through it and find any recipes you might like to try.

LOL :-D That's how I've been from the start with my kids. Once they are old enough to make themselves a sandwich, I won't care if they do that. but for now, I am not a short-order chef. lol

Nicole --- 15 years ago -

I didn't know you were a chef. Did you get one of those certificate thingies from one of those "accredited" places online? Duh. I have photoshop.

Jamie (Sake's momma) --- 15 years ago -

I watch my portions too.. I also do not eat ranch anymore lol. I like to add broccoli or cabbage whenever possible into a meal.. I just kind of make what we have (when I cook) I don't really do the whole recipe thing. I like to use brown rice and make a wannabe stir fry thing- but with all healthy stuff. :)

Ash-Uh-Ley! --- 15 years ago -

I just know I am eventually going to get sick of chicken and fish....LOL.  You can eat other meats...just don't eat as much meat and eat more veggies at that meal....healthy eating really isn't that hard. If you make good choices most of the day/week and exercise, it is okay to have the "bad choices" in small amounts. The key is making a lifestyle change, not a diet. Add strawberries to cereals, make smoothies with fresh fruits, change it up so that you don't get bored and stop. My goal is 2 pounds a week, so that I can lose 24 pounds by summer. I lost 2 pounds last week, but I still had Burger King once and shared a Pistachio Almond shake with my husband..

Ash-Uh-Ley! --- 15 years ago -

But in all serioiusness... I usually just google whatever meat I want to cook that night and add "easy healthy recipe" onto the end and get a ton of recipes!

Loved living in Oki --- 15 years ago -

I still had Burger King once BK burgers, minus the cheese and mayo, are actually the least fattening of fast food burgers.

Jamie (Sake's momma) --- 15 years ago -

pork is better than beef also. heckeys- I get mine plain- and just add ketchup. hate mayo & im lactose intolerant so i usually dont get cheese :) I lost 3 lbs last week :)

Ash-Uh-Ley! --- 15 years ago -

BK burgers, minus the cheese and mayo, are actually the least fattening of fast food burgers.  I got a grilled chicken sandwhich, no mayo and just ate the lettuce, tomato, chicken, and bottom bun! .....oh and fries :)

Loved living in Oki --- 15 years ago -

pork is better than beef also. And use ground turkey instead of beef. I haven't used ground beef in years.

Ash-Uh-Ley! --- 15 years ago -

Loved living in Oki --- 15 years ago -

What happen to the easy life of just eat and work out.. Age. ;-)

Jamie (Sake's momma) --- 15 years ago -

I don't do the count calories or carbs crap.. I just eat what is good for me.. and I judge it by how I feel, weight loss, poop, and all that jazz

Ash-Uh-Ley! --- 15 years ago -

I keep an eye on calories, sodium, sugars, fats...and I am way more active than I have been in a long time. Bike rides at the park with my daughter on the days that are pretty (except today), gym or run around the hilly-ass neighborhood at night.
