When you rent a car, do they check your paperwork when going through the gate? We're getting ready to PCS and we're selling our car on the 23rd but we still need a car until the 25th (we leave the morning of the 26th). My husband's final out is on the 24th so I'm not sure if we can still have a rental car in his name then. My neighbor said he'd put it in his name but we need to go off base to the airport and we live in Chibana which is "off base" so I don't want to do that if they check the paperwork. Does anyone know if my husband can still have a rental car if he is out-processed from the base? 

Which base? You have an ID card, a valid license and a rental contract, you will be fine. 

Kadena. I just didn't know if it'd be ok for our neighbor to rent the car for us to drive. I wouldn't want to get in trouble. 

They can rent it,but you need to be there when they get it so the rental company can get a copy of your DL, and write down your name for who is going to be driving it.

Because their friends need to return it for them. 

Actually we can return the rental car...they are gonna rent the van to drive us to the airport so they can return it. But it's good to know we have options. 

We might just do that then (have it in our name) and then when we turn in the car on the 25th we'll have our friends go with us and rent the van that we'll be using the next day to get to the airport. They're coming with us to the airport so they can just return it when they're done.
