Looking to speak with anyone about importing a motorcycle from the states to Okinawa. I'm coming in Nov, and have been searching, but am getting mixed information. Ideally, someone who has done this within the last year, with a newer bike (2006+) and a 1000 cc bike. Email me, or reply to this post and I'll try to contact you with questions. Thanks to anyone who can help.

It's expensive and your bike will get ruined from the weather over here. Don't bother. Just buy one when you come over here, if you must have a motorcycle. Your bike has to go through JCI process and inspections in mainland japan which can cost anywhere from $2000+ since it has to be up to "Japanese specifications". Just not worth it in my opinion. For the price you are going to pay to ship it to mainland and have the inspections and mods done...you can buy one over here. People are always selling motorcycles over here.

Mrs. Boss speaks the truth. I was trying to do the same thing. IF your bike is newer than 2001 and it's stock, AND it's Japanese you have a chance. But from what I learned 2k is the cheapest you will spend. Brand new JCI is the least of your worries. Getting it to and from Mainland Japan, roadtax, insurance, and JCI was going to run me 6k-8k total for a Honda RC51.

I will say this. Bikes over here are relatively expensive. Most of the larger CC bikes are $4k+ and they are generally older bikes. IMO I'd say get a car first then put some feelers out for bikes.

My bike is an '09 Yamaha R1, all stock. I've only had it a year and it only has 2300 miles, putting it in storage where it just sits for 3 years is going to ruin it as well. I'm willing to pay a couple grand to ride my bike. I'm more interested in exact cost, and procedures to getting it done. Not to mention if I actually can, alot of things I read say bikes this size cannot be imported, but then I read of people who have done it. Which is why I'm looking for someone who has, or possibly a number to base safety or TMO over there who can answer questions from experience, because most of what I've seen other places is people who have "heard this or that" not anyone who has actually done it.

which base are you going to be coming to? vehicle registration may know. they're on foster.

Camp Foster Vehicle reg. website.

I've been all over that site they basically just quote some order that still has the mixed information. Also, they apparently don't answer the email address they have on the site, I emailed it at the end of last week.

Why dont you just sell it?

If not, maybe ask someone on the base you are at how to find out info? or ask your sponsor if you know who he/she is right now.

Like everyone says, I wouldnt bring it over here, its such a hassle and they have a million bikes for sale over here.

The couple of grand is only what it will cost you to get it over to mainland Japan. I'm sorry I should have specified. That is why I had a + sign after the 2000. Sell your bike or put it in military storage. Or if you're stubborn and feel like bringing it and spending more to ride it than what you paid for the bike..have fun with that. YOu will be bringing a rust bucket peice of junk back to the US when you leave this island...just an FYI. Bringing a new motorcycle over here is just stupid.

I would think that leaving it in the proper storage environment for 3 years would be better than it rusting here. I would never bring a vehicle of any sort here-rust is pretty ubiquitous.

Go here and ask your questions they may have a better idea.

I still think it would be a waste of your money to bring a brand new motorcycle over here only to have it rust away.
