SFC :) --- 14 years ago -

We just PCS'd last week and I wanted to share how easy of a process it was for us. We flew commercial (United) and yes they were great!
We have an 8 lb dog so that helps in the easiness department, I'm sure too, lol!
Once we arrived Friday morning to Naha and paid 3100 Yen. They took her and we were off to Narita!
In Narita, they had her waiting for us when we got off the plane, no wait. We then had to check her in at United she was the a carry on (we got to go in the "pet line" and again no waiting)! United never charged us for travelling with her, not one cent.
Chicago was easy too...just a ton of people.
That was it, it was that simple! After we left Naha no one looked at her, her kennel or any paperwork not even once!
This was 100% a stress free travel once we got going. Just wanted to share...

I hope it is that easy when we leave here in 2013

I'm so happy for you! And L!

Shelly --- 14 years ago -

I hope it's that easy for me at the end of the year!

JessicaB --- 14 years ago -

yeah the process is a little different and more stressful if you are taking them as cargo and more expensive too...but that is awesome your's went sooo smooth!

JessicaB --- 14 years ago -

I hear yen...

JessicaB --- 14 years ago -

I was just told yen over the phone (since I have to send money with the lady flying my pugs home) and Mary from Camp Canine said yen also...but I don't see why you couldn't use your cc...

JessicaB --- 14 years ago -

ugh just found out though the last plane is a small plane so they are thinking she can't take our dogs....AHHHHH guess in a week or two I'm flying home for a week to take care of this!

nobiancody --- 14 years ago -

Awesome that it was a flawless trip for you and the dog!

I had the option of credit card or Yen Naha with Ana. I had the cash in dollars already so I went downstairs to the bank at Naha and exchanged it for Yen. It was 27,000.00 Yen to Tokyo, then United in Tokyo I paid dollars ($250).

Yeah, I can imagine yours are a bit more to transport! My dog was in the biggest kennel allowed for United, lol and she's less than half the weight of yours!

what other websites are good to find cheap tickets...I know this has been asked before or I think it has...

nobiancody --- 14 years ago -

We usually use Orbitz, get a better deal by calling sometimes. And the online Exchange website has a travel site as well, used that my last round trip to Oki in Jan.

This was good information from SFC:) and others. Hopefully this will show up in the OU search for future reference (OU search seems to have some problems lately).

Just wondering SFC, when you arrived in USA and went thru customs nobody even checked paperwork for the dog, or the kennel/crate?

nobiancody --- 14 years ago -

Good question STO. I know for my dog in the baggage hold I had to show paperwork, and they threw out the ziplock bag of dog food taped to the top of the kennel.

Eta. We went through customs and that's where the paperwork from the Naha quarintine office was confirmed.

So what exactly is the process of PCS'ing out with a pet here? Like do they have to be quaritined for a certain time period before leaving? Paperwork? Ect. Just curious. We did not come over here with a pet. We got a cat when we got here. Would be awesome info to have for when we leave....in a couple of years(providing it doesn't change). :-)

Depends on where you are going. Back to the states is easy. We just have to have rabies shots updated and a health certificate, as far as I've been told.

Nicole --- 14 years ago -

Unless you go to another country (or Hawaii) that also quarantines, should be pretty simple and straightforward.

sam --- 14 years ago -

I have looked at the recommended websites, but can't really get good info...basically it is saying that the whole thing is a hit or miss. Can you bring a domestic rabbit back to the states?
