What should i know about Yuma? How is base housing? What about the people there?

dependopotamus --- 14 years ago -

[i]What should i know about Yuma? LLIO is going there, so it's going to be awesome{i]

I'm completely jealous...

Paul --- 14 years ago -

sorry

My wife is there right now. The PX is smaller than here, but you don't need a PX in the states, so that's no biggie.

It gets hot as balls, but it's a desert, so again no biggie.

Kind of in the middle of no where.

Around base in the desert, just like 29Palms, people are scary.

I think all of the "hills have eyes" types move close to the base in hopes of either marrying a service member, or getting a job on base.

I'd try Google since Yuma doesn't have an active underground. I found lots of info online. It's just like most any other military town. Yes it gets hot but it gets hot here and in Yuma there isn't a lot of rain. Middle of nowhere is kind of a random description to me because even if I have to drive hours to get to the "big" city it's an option we don't have here on island. I can't imagine the people are any scarier than anywhere else in the states. But I guess I'll see that first hand soon enough.

I could go either way.

Depends on how hott the weirdos are. This weirdo would like to be moved to Tucson, por favor.

The people who live in 29 are pretty weird I must say.

This is what I was saying, they are about the same in Yuma, maybe a little better.

From what I understand, Yuma is like LA compared to 29. LOL

Yuma is like LA compared to 29. LOL

This is true too. Much more to do right off base than 29, they have a Walmart too.

Walmart, Target, Kohl's, Old Navy, Best Buy... I think we'll be good.

yourmomdotcom --- 14 years ago -

I have only been through there a few times many years ago- it wasn't huge but if the desert doesn't bother you you should be fine. From the helo pilots I've talked to- they see illegals all the time during WTI. Some of the routes they fly go very close to the border.

I'm currently in Yuma. It's hot as balls. The PX sucks. Lots of Mexicans. I love my house (on base) though, a lot of them were remodeled recently.

Amurikan Lunatic --- 14 years ago -

At least you've got mexican food.

But we have Obligato's!

a3093744uu --- 14 years ago -

You're in AZ and you're surprised there's a bunch of mexicans hanging around?

...

I was trying to describe Yuma, but I guess anyone coming here from Oki would be used to language barriers.

I forgot the snowbirds. Old people flock here during the winter and make going out in town kinda miserable, heck even the commissary is packed with them. Speaking of the commissary, it's tiny.

The local school district is pretty terrible due to a lack of funds. There's various charter schools and such though.

Loved living in Oki --- 14 years ago -

Luckily the school system means nothing to me. I'm a big fan of the sun, Mexicans and old people.

Casey --- 14 years ago -

If you think Yuma is full of snowbirds....avoid Tucson and Phoenix.....or pretty much all of Florida. Fvcking old people trying to drive.....

Casey --- 14 years ago -

I am glad I don't have to worry about commissaries anymore when I leave here either. Don't believe I'll be going to another in the states unless it's the only option for 100 miles.

Casey --- 14 years ago -

Even Clovis has grocery stores I am more likely to go to than a commissary. We currently have no open assignments there, so I'm going to be optimistic and say the chance I'll be going there next December are very slim.

sToO --- 14 years ago -

Yea Yuma!
It must be better than Hawaii?

yourmomdotcom --- 14 years ago -

That's like me saying "my feet touch the ground when I walk"....

That's like you assuming they ONLY fly next to the border....
