ok ~ feeling a bit discouraged! I am really THAT unqualified for the jobs I've applied for ~ or is there some sort of HR fastrack I'm unaware of??!! geez - never had such a hard time finding a job! any suggestions? :-/
I was curious, so I looked at the NAFjobs available in Illinois, and I saw the same exact position at a golf course in Illinois, and it pays $9.75/hr.
Now I can assure you the cost of living in Illinois is much much less than here in Okinawa.
I think this is absolute sh!t.
I think the people in charge now that here people have limited options for employment, therefor don't have to pay competitive wages. Whereas, in Illinois, there are many many more options for employment, thus needing to pay more to stay competitive.
The job situation is terrible for Americans here. The best thing to do is to go to college and work on your bachelor's degree or masters. Also, search around off base and get a job teaching English.
I had my application in at that nafjobs thingy for almost a year before I got any offers. I did get 1 job that I was really really interested in, but I turned it down cause my family is more important. And I really enjoy making my jewelry pieces. Too, bad that none of them are selling though.
She applied at Kubasaki on Foster- but from what I hear you can apply at any school. she's done work at that high school and at the middle school on Lester so far.
The process for applying can be time consuming as you have to do the background check, finger prints, school job app etc etc. - so from start to finish it was just under a month from the time she applied to her first actual day working.

That is ridiculous.
I think it's tough to say that's ridiculous unless you know her resume. I do know that plenty of well-qualified people don't get called in for interviews but I'm sure just as many, if not more, not qualified people apply thinking they would be great at that job.

I applyed for the auto hobby shop and something else, but I cannot remember what. :-b I know that I am qualified for the auto hobby positions, because thats what I did before moving here. I don't need a job though. I enjoy being a wife and a mother of two beautiful little boys (the youngest has started walking!!!) and I really enjoy doing my own thing. :-D

I think it's ridiculous to wait a year to call someone for an interview, no matter how qualified they are, and no matter what position they applied for.
A year really? I would laugh at an employer if they called me a year after I had sent them my resume.
I think if a person wants to make money in Okinawa, they need to think outside the box, must jobs are taken, or just enjoy life for a while under the sun
I feel bad for anyone who sits here and does nothing. Although I have met a couple women who were terrified to drive and would never leave their houses unless their husbands were home.
Here it doesn't seem that crazy. I can only imagine that for every one position that opens up an insane number of people apply for it.
Yeah, didn't think of this. But to call someone a year later is a bit absurd. They should keep the applications or resumes on file for 90 days like most places.
Then, if you are still looking for a job after that time frame, reapply.
This is the first time in my adult life that I didn't work for more than a couple months. I actually loved it but so many of my friends didn't or don't work that it really helped keep me busy. If you didn't have any friends or your friends had jobs, I imagine you would get bored.
