A few questions that I hope you guys can help us!!
So how long did it take you to get your house hold goods?
When did they pick your stuff up from the states (how far out before going to Japan)?

Thanks for your time!!!!

We got ours a few days after we moved into our house. Not sure if that's the norm or not. On the other hand I took every nanosecond of leave and travel time available to me- which was about 59 days. IIRC- we got email alerts tracking when our TMO shipments arrived on island- the shipments got here before we did. It was just a matter of scheduling the delivery.

It was about a week. Our move was very last minute though- within 60 days of coming back from the "Stan"

omg wow... Ok thanks for your time.. How long is the flight...??

Casey --- 13 years ago -

we had originally planned to take only 30 days leave en route, ended up with about 50 because they tacked on a 20 day TDY en route. our leaving the last base was also extended by a week and a half, so we scheduled tmo about 2 weeks before we moved, and then add that to the time we took getting here, it was roughly 60 days or so. when we got here, it was 9 days before christmas. we had to wait until the next day housing was open after that to get in to our house, and we called TMO the last day before the break... they said the shipment had been waiting for us, they were wondering where we were. got our stuff the same day we moved in to the house.

our stuff must have arrived in 50-60 days, so it doesn't take terribly long. if you take leave coming here, the wait won't be bad.

the flight is LONG. it felt like days. between seattle and tokyo was about 10 hours. if you're on the patriot express, it will make one other stop before Kadena, i think with layover for fuel and everything it's 16-18 hours total. if you're commercial, it all depends on how many stops and layovers.

wait, are you coming to okinawa, or mainland?

Our Flight.... lets see. I think it was 9 hrs the first leg to Yakota AB I believe- we laid over there for 2 hrs. 2 hrs the second leg to MCAS Iwakuni(with a 2 hr layover) and a 3.5 hrs 3rd leg to Kadena.

I ask about the flight because I have a little Boy he's 18 months.. grrrr

Bring dimetap is all I'm saying .... And ear plugs!!

We didn't even get off the flight in Iwakuni. It was a very short stop. Enough to kick them off the plane and take off.

I think the flight to Seattle may have been a little longer. I didn't really pay attention.

Anytime I have flown with my daughter, she has always been better than expected. Don't make a big deal about it and bring plenty of stuff to keep them occupied. You should be fine.

We didn't get off there either.... but we were stuck for a good 120+ minutes. Kids were losing their minds- running up and down the isles screaming- pure chaos!!

Balls To The Wall --- 13 years ago -

It may have been that long. I don't remember exactly. My kid just looked at her book or played with the iPod. So I read a lot of the trip. I know we arrived around the same time we left.

From what I hear it's usually only 30 min or so.... we were waiting for some "VIP" types to come in on another flight is why it took so long for us. By that time most of the smaller kids were going stir crazy.... and the parents who were already tired and overwhelmed basically threw in the towel and it was out of control..... but then again that's a HUGE pet peeve of mine so for some it may not have been that bad. Frankly I needed a Scotch or a Valium after that flight.

We got packed up about 2 days before we left for 3 weeks of leave. We were in TLF for 2 weeks and got our unaccompanied baggage 3 days later and our HHG about 2 weeks or so after that.

Moving here my son was 1yr and wasn't too bad for unexpectedly having to be in lap rather than have his own seat. Then when we took leave our daughter was 11 months and wasn't bad either. They were both better than I expected them to be and I was glad for that. Definitely bring things for him to do and snacks. We were on commercial flights and it was 10hrs from Seattle to Narita. Had a 2-3hr layover in Narita and then a 2 1/2-3hr flight from Narita to here. The long flight seemed to go by fairly quick for me.

I thought they gave everyone seats, even kids? When we came here, even the babies in carseats had their own seat!

They screwed it up and only reserved us 2 seats instead of 3. He should've had his own seat.

That sucks! I would have been so pissed :( That's a long flight to hold something on my lap!

It was, but considering the long flight and being in our laps, he did pretty good.

We got our stuff in Oki in about five weeks. They packed us up the week before we left, we didn't take leave but did end up in TLF for three weeks and then got our deliveries one week after moving in. When we packed up to leave Oki and come back to the states our stuff was here waiting on us 32 days after it was packed up.
