Ok my husband and I got here about 7 months ago, I have nested, out house is all put together and now we are talking about possibly starting our family. I am excited because I always knew I wanted to be a mommy. He is 22 and I am 21. I stopped taking my birth control and have been off of it for about 2 months or so...NOTHING! How long after you stop taking birth control does it take to conceive. The women in my family are all soooooooo fertile! My mom got pregnant with me on the pill plus spermicide. I'm getting impatient, I know im young but come on!
It took me an entire year to get normal cycles again after taking BC. I think it really depends on the person and how it effects their hormones. Just because someone else in your family is really fertile doesn't mean you and your husband will be. I understand getting frustrated though. I thought it would take one or two tries and then I would be prego but the average couple takes 12 months.
I got pregnant about a month after quitting the ortho-tri-cyclen (sp?) pill. I don't know if age has anything to do with fertility, but I'd think that younger = more fertile. I'm 28 and my husband is 27.
im 21 and i thought i would be quite fertile. I forgot to take a pill one day and ended up pregnant but miscarried after only a month or so. I find it hard to be pregnant, everyone says "your 21 you can wait a little longer" but i find that its hard to be patient. We already do do it like rabbits, at least once a day....nothing! grrrr
BE PATIENT! You're only 21, you have your whole life to make a family. No need to be discouraged after ONLY 2 months! Calm down and just let it play out.
I've been off BCP for over a year and nothing yet, but got pregnant on BCP and miscarried. So when it's your time it's your time. Relax, and have fun "practicing".
I'm just getting done with my period, can I get pregnant while on my period? does anyone have a book they recommend that has a chapter in it about trying to conceive? does What To Expect When Your Expecting have a chapter on it?
I am 21... I was off of birth control pills for a year and a half before I became pregnant. Now i'm due in 2 weeks. It all depends on your body. My friends who have had kids were off of it for 3-4 months before they became pregnant.
I wish you the best of luck!
You get pregnant during your ovulation portion of your cycle... usually day 11 is the beginning of it if your period is normal... You can try the ovulation kits. They tell you if you're ovulating or not. They sell them at the BX.
Also ... they say when trying to conceive you don't want to have sex more than once a day because you want the sperm to have time to "mature". And they say it's best to do it in the morning...
That is what the docs told me at least.
oh hell then we are screwed cause we're doing it morning, lunch and night! lol jk jk..usually just night but i will try the morning before he goes to work.

We were doing that for a while too... well twice a day sometimes.
Then I was told NO... once a day... otherwise the sperm don't have enough time to regenerate.
Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It is a book that teaches you the signs that you are fertile to help you get pregnant. Also for charting for free you can use fertilityfriend.com or ivillage.com/fertilityplanner. Let me know if you have any other questions.
I know people that have taken over a year to get pregnant...it just depends on lots of things. You should also start taking prenatal vitamins NOW. You should go to websites on Google and www.twoweekwait.com and babycenter.com and everything. You can put in your cycle information on babycenter.com so you know when you should be ovulating (although you might not be yet). Or just have sex and it will happen when it's supposed to. I did a ton of research when we were going to TTC but decided against it for now.
It is a great book and you can get it at amazon.com. I cant remember how much it cost. It has taught me so much about my cycle. PM me if you want more details about charting or anymore info.
I was on Yasmin and it took me 4 months get pregnant..but like someone mentioned...everyone's body reacts differently to coming off of BC. As Nikki said babycenter.com has a good calendar that will tell you when you ovulation days are.
someone told me that having sex on your period is better and then they told me having sex on your period is worse for you. Anyone know the truth to this?
You can have sex on your period... It isn't good or bad for you... most just find it gross or uncomfortable. It won't help you get pregnant though, lol.
As NikkiB said... start taking prenatal vitamins now. I got pregnant the month after I started taking them so I swear it helped, lol... but it could have just been luck.
