POLL: Do you ALWAYS give lowball offers

When you buy something on OYS, do you ALWAYS lowball what the person is asking?? Do other people always do that to you?? It always seems everyone offers me less than what I am asking - even if I am only asking $2.00!!! It gets frusterating - I normally put my prices at "the lowest I will go" on my items... Does anyone else have this problem??

I always pay what they're asking... I am not into the whole haggling game. I do my research and if the price is cheaper than anywhere else already, why bother harassing the seller? I mostly sell on OYS, however, and people almost always try and get things for cheaper than I'm selling them for. It is annoying, especially considering I do my research before selling, also.

peachyme --- 16 years ago -

people always ask me for less...allot less! but i normally pay the asking price.

Ennui --- 16 years ago -

I do try to round up my offers. If an item is $12, I'd offer $10 or something along those lines. If I feel the item can or should go at a lower price, I'd offer but not get my hopes up. If I'm interested in several items, I'd send the seller an offer with the price rounded off too. & no, I don't haggle when it's obviously already cheap. Weird now. Why haggle when something is already priced so cheap - $2!?

nikita08 --- 16 years ago -

I've asked once to change the price on a higher priced item, but other then that I always pay the asking price. People however email me even when it doesn't o.b.o. or FIRM and still try to get it for less.

Mary --- 16 years ago -

Oh, and the new trend of selling to "highest offer" gets on my nerves. I know that the seller knows exactly how much they want for that item at a minimum, so they should just state it instead of being greedy! If they want to play concealed auction games, they should go to eBay!

Aimee --- 16 years ago -

I don't hardly buy anymore because no one is having any "good" deals on the things I need. Everyone seems to be asking for (imo) too much for used stuff. Its like "Oh hey I can buy this used for $15 or buy it new for $20-25" Hmm, I am not that poor that the $5-10 savings is that big of a deal to me.

notmuchlonger --- 16 years ago -

I have only asked once because it was a bed for my son and I just couldn't spend the amount! I hate to ask because I feel like we are already getting a good deal!!

Ennui --- 16 years ago -

I know that the seller knows exactly how much they want for that item at a minimum, so they should just state it instead of being greedy! If they want to play concealed auction games, they should go to eBay! Yup, I agree! Sellers' expectations are getting rather ridiculous nowadays. I price my items at around 1/3 or less with the condition of the item in mind & I still get crappy offers for my stuff. I'd rather keep the widget I paid $40 for than to sell it for $5 instead of the $10 I'm asking. Is that too much to ask for? There are actual perpetual hagglers on OYS who haggle all the time & rarely follow through. I've learned to ignore their offers.

ive been having my clothing 75% off because i have at least 2 totes of clothes that dont fit my kids and youd be surprised at how many people still go lower on the price. its already dirt cheap

Mary --- 16 years ago -

Meeting with buyers is such a hassle (75% never show up or call again) that I'd rather donate my stuff to the Airman's Attic than sell anything for under $5.

I have a big box that I throw stuff in for the time I plan to go to the flea market before we leave the island ^_^ Flea market sounds annoying too. I'm all about convenience. If I can't sell it/it's not worth more than $5 to me, I'll just save it and donate it!

Just another girl --- 16 years ago -

wheres that at?

Ennui --- 16 years ago -

Flea market sounds annoying too. I'm all about convenience. If I can't sell it/it's not worth more than $5 to me, I'll just save it and donate it! I went to the flea market on Chibana once & managed to sell plenty of the 0-12Mos baby boy clothes I had. The locals were loud & many loved to haggle but I came away with 8000Y from those clothes alone. I donated the rest. :)

my own woman --- 16 years ago -

I will ask but I dont push. If you say no I leave it alone and pay full price.

Leaving Oki soon --- 16 years ago -

I'd rather donate my stuff to the Airman's Attic than sell anything for under $5. I was there yesterday and while I was reading the donation policy ,they were going through some donations and keeping some things(the good stuff) for themselves.

Aimee --- 16 years ago -

I was there yesterday and while I was reading the donation policy ,they were going through some donations and keeping some things(the good stuff) for themselves. I dont think the Airmans attic workers are paid? So if they arent, i guess thats one perk to volunteering there.

Mary --- 16 years ago -

I dont think the Airmans attic workers are paid? So if they arent, i guess thats one perk to volunteering there. They get "paid" in Airman's Attic dollars. It's really minimal though, but if they're volunteering there it doesn't bother me that they get first grabs. At least they're helping the community in some way!

Leaving Oki soon --- 16 years ago -

I know they don't get paid...but I was just thinking, they have a new policy that if you donate something that doesn't work or whatever they'll call you and ask you to go pick it up...so after they get their hands on the good stuff they call you to get back whatever they don't want. WTF

Love to give. Way too easy lol

MichaelHoncho --- 16 years ago -

Way too easy lol I've been told that.

Jamie (Sake's momma) --- 16 years ago -

I usually pay what it asked.. I may try to shave off a few bucks if it isn't a "cheap" item. People ALWAYS offer me less lol. I would rather keep most of my stuff than sell it for what they offer. It only bothers me if I have "firm" written by price or if they email telling they want it.. get directions/ or we set up a meeting place.... THEN they ask for it to be cheaper.. sorry no. ESP. if I am meeting them somewhere- I will give 5 bucks off items that cost 15 or more if they come to my house...

Jamie (Sake's momma) --- 16 years ago -

some donations and keeping some things(the good stuff) for themselves. Yeah- that's what they do.. they did that when my sister volunteered there too.
