First time mom here..went to my appt today at 1300 and they made me sign a piece of paper and gave me a copy. It basically gave me the steps to follow. I went and got blood panels done and then I have to call Lester tomorrow to make an appointment for the prenatal class.
My ??? is, my paper says I am 6 weeks 6 days and due April 6th 2010 but how accurate is that exactly?
My next question is, is the prenatal class a fun milestone that my hubby should take off for? He wants to be there for as much as he can and for the fun and important doctors visits where we find out important info. So he wants to know is the prenatal class something he should go to.
Okay...if you went by your peroid, then the date should be pretty accurate. Around 9-12 weeks, you'll have an ultrasound done at Lester, it will be a "dating" U/S and it should give you close to an exact date, but the date you have now should be pretty close, if you sure of peroids.
The pre-natal class. No, hubby shouldn't go to that. You sit in a room with a bunch of other pregnant chicks and fill out tons of paperwork while a video plays in the back ground. Then you go into a room with a nurse and schedule your first appointment and U/S. I was the first one to go into the room out of my group, I think I was there a total of about 20 minutes.
Trust me, there will pleanty of other things for your husband to go with you to, but that really doesn't need to be one of them. I didn't see ONE guy in the group I was in.
That class is a complete waste of time IMO. Then again, I have 4, so they basically told me what I already know. I could've taught the class. The only thing they really needed from me was the paperwork. Your husband would be bored to death! Trust me.
My hubby went to all my prenatal classes inc the Baby Again as this is #5 for us. Its a personal choice, yes it is boring but my hubby wanted to go just the same :)
CONGRATS!
That class is a waste of time! lol, but you have to do it. Also my due date changed like 3 times while I was pregnant. If you can try to schedule an appointement with Sutherland (I think she is a captin now). But she was amazing to me and always answered all of my questions...without making me feel like an as s

She is great! I had her too. She is only a midwife though, so she'll see you throughout your pregnancy, but come time to deliver it's whomever is on call.

thats how it is anyways....you never know who is going to deliver. But she is a full blown doctor, not just a midwife. She use to deliver, but not anymore. She is the boss lady to all the other docs and midwifes.
the lamaze was pretty good for the husbands to go to.
Never used that with any of my 4 pregnancies either and the last one I didn't even have an epidural. When you are in that much pain, no amount of "teaching" you how to breathe is gonna help. Not trying to scare anyone, but that's the truth!
thats how it is anyways....you never know who is going to deliver. B
I know that, I'm just saying she doesn't do deliveries. Period. She is awesome though! I had her in 2008 for my last pregnancy and she was really great! She had a sign in her office I loved that said: "Put your big girl panties on and deal with it!" LOL!
I learned about the spinal/epidural combo and I wouldnt have known about that if I wouldnt have gone to the class.
Airborne wife seems like she wants to learn as much as possible about pregnancy, So I would think that Lamaze would help her get ready for delivery. It helped me be less nervous about it.
That class is a waste of time! lol, but you have to do it
So what happens if you dont do it? I was never told about the class and im 25 weeks pregnant. Not that I wont to go. This is my 4th pregnancy
my hubby came to the class with me and he said he was glad he had... he learned a lot. I knew a lot of the stuff but he learned a bunch!
I think it's good for them to MAYBE go if it's your first baby, but not if it's like your 4th. Come on. Been there done that. I know my hubby was thanking his lucky stars he didn't have to go to that boring class again.
Have your husband go to the class with you. Its pretty informational, especially for guys. Only at the end are you doing paperwork and watching a video. Your due date is accurate according to your period, but its a general template that all doctors use. Not all women ovulate within that window, and ultimately your baby will decide when to come.
I thought everyone had to go no matter what!?!?
I didnt even know about the class until someone said they were going a few weeks ago. Now when we were stationed in NC I did go to some class with my youngest.
When I went there were a few guys there. It was a 2hr thing with paperwork and videos. They actually scheduled me for the wrong class since it was my 2nd kid. If he doesn't know much about babies and at least have ideas of what to do then he should go if he can.
You're about to have 5 and he still wanted to go? WOW! That's all I can say.
Yup I think his thought was I did it for the 1st so I better go for all of them :)
We have never done Lamaze though. I had a failed epidural w/an allergic reaction with one and the rest natural. This last one will be a c-section though as I had complications with my last delivery (shoulder distocia) and I want my tubes tied too :)
I took Lamaze with my second and that was the easiest labor out of all four. It really helped me to focus on the rise and fall of each contraction instead of getting lost in "omg, it's never going to end." I went the longest without drugs of any kind with him. The class will teach you other ways to deal with the pain, too, not just the breathing techniques.
My first was hard. I did try to stand up on the bed while pushing out my son (second).
My third, the labor part pretty much sucked but when the anesthesiologist was finally able to get my epi in, he did a superb job. I didn't feel one single thing as my third was born.
My 4th was pretty painful, but I went from 3cm to 8cm in 40 minutes when I got my beloved Nubain. By then there was no time for the epi :( So she was technically "natural."
Being your first baby, the class at Lester will be helpful. They will give you info for other stuff to sign up for and other classes.
They never did ANY of this with us. They put us all in the OB clinic waiting room cause something was wrong with the room they normally have it in. We put on a video and filled out paper work. I wasn't aware of any classes or any of that crap...hmmm...that sucks.
when i was preggo with my 1st my hubby went. there were also several other hubbies there also.
now the parent again class for us already mommies is boring.
but i would DEF have him take off for the 1st time parent class
