Ive heard that they charge a lot of money for something very simple. For instance our neighbors had a black mark in there dryer and housing inspector made them pay 50 dollars.
Really.. I took some stuff back 3 times, they gave me a paper to fill and did even look at the stuff at all. I was expecting a close inspection, all I got was the good to go
they barely glanced at our furniture when we turned it in, but a few of them do check very closely. my neighbor got a picky person and ended up paying for stupid stuff.
You got lucky, All Abouts. When I returned our govt. furniture, I had to pay for two mattresses, one I expected because my daughter had messed it up, but they also charged me for a full size mattress because my sheets left a slight blue that you could only see when you tilted it in just the right lighting. Since the total cost was under $300 we were not allowed to dispute it.
Do they not know the meaning of normal wear and tear? Come on it't not like they're allowed to reuse the mattresses. If that's the case then I'm in big trouble when we leave here. Woke up in the middle of the night night having a miscarage and I was hemeraging. My husband did his best to clean the mess with Oxyclean and an upolstry cleaner but he was still unable to clean up all of the blood stains.
So i came home today to my golden retriever eating one of the legs of the table.
I sure hope we do not soon see an ad on OYS for a golden retriever FTGH.
If the chew marks are not so bad you can do what others have commented on. Use wood filler, sand it a little and then stain it. You might have to stain all 4 legs for them to look even. Or return the table to Furniture Warehouse when it is a very dark cloudy day.
You could also contact one of the handymen that advertise on OYS to see if one will do a repair.

That's not normal wear and tear and you will get charged for that.
Normal wear and tear was what we had on our son's mattress-a few rub marks from it being against the wall, etc.
Any sort of stain (blood, urine, etc) is not normal wear and tear and that is what waterproof mattress pads are for.
Our mattresses were covered in plastic when we moved in and were told they recycle the mattresses every time they are turned in so we didn't put mattress pads on any of it.
Nicole get a point there, not really normal wear and tear, the beautiful pictures my son made on his mattress with a permanent marker, do is a expected action from a 3 yr old
Because I wouldn't want to sleep on a mattress that stunk of urine or anything like that for 4 years.
Ok, Nicole you are missing the point. When you turn in your mattresses, they go into a huge pile and are sent out to a recycling center to be recycled. Who cares if they are stained or not because the mattresses will never be reused again. Everyone gets a new mattress when they move in if they choose to get the government mattresses.

I care. I sweat when I sleep. I have sex on that mattress. My kids get in my bed sometimes. I was a nursing mother who leaked milk. I would not want any of that on my mattress, be it mine permanently or not. I still have to sleep on it-why would I sleep on it if it's filthy?

I would think you would care. Your kid is the one sleeping in the urine stained mattress. Nicole shouldn't have to worry, but why wouldn't you protect a mattress one of your family members is using?
We were pretty lucky, too. The kid colored on one of the chairs a few days before they picked them up. I got most of it out, but there was still a slight green stain. They didn't even check them.

You don't like sleeping in old breastmilk or sex stains? Weird. :)

The mattress was cleaned very well after the miscarraige but the stains from all of the blood never came up. I also steam clean our mattresses every week when I change our sheets and we have since added a memory foam mattress pad on for more comfort.
They hardly looked at our furniture, but none of it was really messed up. It was returned before my daughter could crawl so she never got a chance to ruin it.
So get a waterproof mattress pad and save yourself the ridiculous hassle.
Because it holds in the heat and gets too hot in bed at night, especially in the summer. Besides it's nice knowing all of the beds are deep cleaned weekly. Then again I'm the OCD freak who steam cleans my couches weekly also.
