HI. We currently live on base, but there are no 3 bedroom houses available, so I was told we can move off base. So I have a few questions, my husband is a Marine E-5, how much do we get for our rent and utilities? I was told it would have to be a self-move, so around how much does that cost? And what is a reasonable price range to live off base for a 3 bedroom place? I don't mind moving off base I just wouldn't want to be paying anything out of pocket for our rent. Any information is greatly appreciated.
My DH is E5, we got 180,000 in OHA. Our 3 bedroom includes water and trash. You'll have to pay an agency fee, ours was about $1000, and you'll have to pay a security deposit, ours was the cost of one month of rent.
Go to the Kadena housing office and do the off base referral class. We just did it last week. You have to do the class before you can move off base anyway. Also- when you first walk in on your immediate left there are several reps for off base housing they can tell you what's available right now. 3 br are a dime a dozen. Some advice- stay away from seaside housing, with them you may as well stay on base. They are overpriced and their places are kind of crappy. You can gat partial advance DLA of 563 dollars and you can get advance agency fee. Usually it's half of what rent is but it varies.
But Kadena housing office can answer all your questions. We are moving off base next week. FINALLY!! Housing on Courtney is like living in a trailer park without the trailers.
Anyone can feel free to have my crappy house on kadena! What? I'm being nice and sharing. So Keepingitreal, what agency do you recommend? We have put in our paperwork, have served our mandatory one year prison sentence on base! Hopefully its approved, we hear they are getting approved. I'm not holding my breath....
Thanks! Their website is nice, but way out of our limits! Seriously!!! Who can afford 380,000 Yen a month? Not to mention the places that list for over 400,000 yen! I have lots of minions, I need space!
Doesn't KIR live right by you DP? If he got approved, I don't know why you can't. They are remodeling his casa, so he got walking papers. Damn no more stalking him.. so he thinks I know where you work.. lol I'm not sure why they won't let us, we've been here almost two years. Just lame if you ask me..
I find Kadena to be nice, not like the Place they offered us at Mct.. besides by 8 am everyone is out the house and usually not back till around 5 or 6 PM, and the weekends we spend out and about, so housing would not bother me, as we would not stay inside staring at walls to much
I'm currently living off base in a neighborhood with no Americans. I still hear kids outside, see tiny children playing in the road and hear people talking outside, even at night.
That would be REALLY hard to do with the house I'm getting. There might be people out in front but it's a parking lot for an apartment complex. No stores or anything like that where people would typically hang out. No sidewalks for lots of people to mill about on. No back yard, front yard is fenced- and the house is HUGE. 3 stories, 5br, 2 car garage- 1 extra parking space inside the fence. The WHOLE second floor is the master suite. The bathroom is bigger than my bedroom here in base housing!! Dang I can't wait to move!!
There aren't lots of people milling about anywhere here. The entire house is fenced. House is three stories, two car garage, only two bedrooms but that's because the entire third floor is the master bedroom and bathroom. It's a very nice house for a single woman and her boxer. The point is simply that anything that happens on base can happen off as well. Will it? Maybe, maybe not. We didn't have the same troubles lots of people complained about on base. Although we were very lucky with where we lived.
